Embarassed a Civic on my way home tonight

Time: ~2340
Location: mostly empty highway

I was on my way home from a car meet and was just crusing along at the speed limit (60) and this green Civic coupe (fart can, primer Z3 fenders, bench wing. The usual) pulls up next to me, falls back, pulls up and falls back. The next time he pulls up he stays there and looks over at me. I wave him to have the jump first. He goes and I decide to stay in 5th and floor it to get a feel of the situation. He's pulling a bit so I downshift to 4th and catch up to him, pass him and keep pulling. I can see him hanging on so I just keep the pedal down and then he starts falling back slowly. By the time I realized that he was probably at his top speed I was already near 140. Oops.

We (well, I) slow down to the speed limit and resume cruising. He decides to take the next exit and leave well enough alone. Not one mile later I pass by a stealth charger and then a police suv comes up on us fast and keeps going without it's lights on.

I think it's safe to say I really lucked out that it happend that soon and not much later.

Disclaimer: This post in no way condones or encourages street racing. That said, most Civics aren't much of a race.

Amen, two nights, two civic races for me and all I wanted to do was to get home.

First night, a bubbleback ricer starts annoying me. So, I downshift to third and pull on him. Amazingly, he's actually keeping up, sort of, but I realize I'm slowly walking him. He must've had some engine work done, but still not enough.

Second night, annoying new SI is driving through traffic like an idiot trying to pick a fight. He stops in front of me, looks over and decides to pull a little and then fall back. When he lifts, I downshift into 4th to test out the new SI's acceleration. Maybe the driver sucked, but I was matching him in acceleration until my car hit its powerband. 'Nuff said.

Good job ridding the world of ricer trash.

+1

Now ask me is that going to stop them from getting killed...
(honestly, its only cuz I'm still stock, w/ any kind of mods it wouldn't have been worth the gas lol)

Now there are some fast civics out there, but you only race the ones w/ Z3 fenders when you wanna feel good about yourself

I figured if I don't school him now, he's just gonna do a fly by and tell his friends about how he "beat" an Rx7.

He couldn't drive, a new Si would thrash an NA.

You're right, it would thrash a stock NA. Thankfully mine is modded and tuned.

Though, I'm not so sure they're as fast as people make them out to be on the highway. I have a friend who's driving a 3rd gen Eclipse, lightened, with an SOHC 4G64 with cams, and he barely walks new SI's. They came from the factory with around 150 hp, if I'm not mistaken. Someone's under/overrating somewhere.

that 150hp would be at the flywheel though.

i have never ever seen a civic that is faster than my RX7 on the street.. not even the turbo one that lives near my place.. though i spose 260hp and 4:7 diff gears probably helps with that. and a sub 1t weight (on my RX)

Um...you are talking about the "Minivan" Si..not the lastest coupe/sedan with 200 hp.

Now it makes sense.
