I went out for a little cruise 2night (Satrdy) to see if me and the REX could put in a few good runs. So we went out and cruised the stip (westiemer) to see what cars might have somthin for us. I spot an STi (mods unknown) playin around with a Mustang GT (mods unknown) from a light. I trail be hind them about a car & a half back waiting for them to get in it. The STI and the GT smash it (35-40 roll) and I give pursuit. I fly by them and get 2 kills for 1 (2-3cars I just had to add the laugh cus it looks funny) .They catch back up and give me the thumbs. I go down to make a u-turn to cross back over the border but I see a WRX coming up from behind me. I creep for awhile to let him catch up to try and get a good run in. He lines up with me and we go at it from a 2nd gear roll. I slide her in 3rd and start my strole away from him. The thing is it took a little to long for me to walk away. So I look down to see I was only pushing 12-13 PSI but what can you do. A good run nontheless. I drive around and cross the border (Hwy 6) to find a another STi(stage 2) headed to a friendly gather down the way. We stage up from a second gear roll and I give a tap on the throttle to start things off. We get on it and I start walking away from him in 3rd(2-3cars). So we all turn in and stop at the little gathering for while. We chit chat for awhile to find out he wants to go agian. I'm like yes sir lets go. We go at it agian w/ 3 honks(2nd gear). We get on the gas and push it in to 3rd to get the same result(good run ). Hes like "damn man what cha got on that thing. I'm running a stage 2". I'm like "alittle of this a little of that". We go down further to make a u but I run into an SRT4 (bigger turbo and so on). I cruise by but I hear him drop it into 2nd. So I do the same and he blips the throttle for us to go and we glide down the street and smash it into 3rd. I'm a head by a fender during the shift and continued to get a good distant lead. I stop and chill with a few folks for awhile. I guy asked me if I wanted to run 1st(simple boltons) and 2G(boltons more than 1stG) Eclipse. Yes sir, lets do it. We make our way out of the parkering lot and get into our positions (yes its 2nd gear agian). I let him get on it and follow right behind him only to have a mini drift lesson sliding the rear end around. I find some grip in 3rd and go right by him to get the kill. He tells me to slow it down for the 2ndG. I slow it down and wait for him to line up with me in "The Gear". He smashes the gas and I soon follow suit right behind him. She glides into third and we're off to get the fun underway and take the win home. So now we turn back in to the meeting spot to chill be4 we head out. The guy in the 2G is like "damn, you got me buy a bus" . I knew it was bad but not that bad. I will try and put up the vid asap of the run in with the 2G. Finally I decide its about that time to go back home and lay it down for the night. I make it about 10-15 min. from the house be4 a boosted civic (EG) wants to play. I think to my self nah just keep cruisein and go home (I was right to think so) but I gave in. We drop it down to get ready to go and with a touch of the gas and were gone. The run was going good and it was going back and forth. I'm thinking "yes sir another good one" untill I feel her act alittle slow, hesitant, and not wanting to play for a quick second . We bring it back down to speed and get ready for round 2. We both give the "I'm ready" signal to fly in the wind. I lean into her and she gets up and goes but not the same as the 1st run. I notice the EG is given me a better run for my money than b4 and I think to my self "this aint right". I give him a good run any way but not as good as the 1st run. We slow it down to make a u-turn. As I began to stop for the turn "OOOPS" she dies out and I yank her to the left to miss the curb only to rool into the parking lot. He follows me in through the other entrance (I blocked the other). He asked how much power,at what boost,etc. Then he notices shes not running and I'm not moving. Hes's like "whats going on,what happen to her". I'm like "I think she decided to call it quits" So he helps me push her all the way in to lot and I give him thanx to see him on his way. A couple of friends I know show up and hook me up with a truck to get her home safely. Sorry for the long story but I had to let it out and let my fello rotor heads know another 1 might have to go under the knife. Thanx for letting me vent and for reading this long a$$ story.

 

first and foremost, what mods are you running?

Secondly, Gotham or BDC are going to be the best shops that are reasonably close to you.

How come people always notice they have a problem yet they continue to push the car till it blows up rather than call it a night and fix the problem so they don't blow something up?

This is why our engines have a reputation for being unreliable.

Sorry about the car. the only place i know of to get decent rotary work is mazmax out of west little york. they are expensive but always have taken great care of my family's rx7's. another thing, dont race on westhimer you will get pulled over they have cops all over it espically at night looking for drunks and racers. ask me how i know...

Well Jucieh, there was no problem with the motor. It just seemed like it because of the way I told it. She still ran good. She wasnt over heating,had power, no smoke, low knocks, no leaks, good afr,etc but Im a run big or go home kind of person. Good thing is I have another FD(stock) I can drive in the mean time but you do have a point though.

Yeah, I was thinking of going to Gotham but I think getting the car there would be the hardest part.

The mods
T78,apexi gt exhaust,no cat,koyo rad,power fc,up graded fuel system,upgraded fans, unorthodox pullies,front mount(greddy),twin power(hks),battery relocated(trunk)etc...

Yeah westiemer can be a hazard, but you gotta know that you just cant run any where on that street. You gotta go to the empty area and it helps knowing when they usually come out to watch.

Nah I didnt stop by Planet Zero(did u). I thought about it but I just decided to on cruisen by. There were some good cars there, at least from what I could see.

Oh, I also ran into a couple FC's that looked like they were gonna tag team on some people if they werent carefull. 1 was blck w/ silver rims (I think) and the other was camoflague black and silver or primer somthin. They ran good to.

well it doesn't exactly mean you popped..... any could have happened. i had my air flow meter fall off and i thought i popped lol... just look around

There are a couple of guys in the Houston Rx7 club that do FD rebuilds, tuning, and just about anything else on an FD, PM if you are interested.

 

If you're looking for someone local, Kyle (twokrx7) and Chuck (cewrx7r1) in Houston have been in this game a long time and are definitely the guys to get your FD running well again

 

ya, but don't mess with Kyle right now. He is working on my car and we are almost done!!!! (engine is will be completely assembled tomorrow). LOL.

 

Thanks guys. I was thinking of going to chuck for a rebuild and porting cause I saw of is work that he did in another thread. I will also keep Kyle in mind for future work and tips. I'd really like to talk to you guys on some tuning tips as well. DMoney, how long as he been working on your FD, and if you dont mind I would also like to see his work when hes done(4 a ride 1 day to see how she rides). Thanks Everyone

ohhh shiiiit I just read this thread today, and I can identefy those FC's as being wickedly quick with large turbo upgrades and porting work. You should come to the houston RX-7 club meets, theres one on nov 10th.
