wing

Hi, I am in the market for a wing for my new track car. I would be up for this.
FRP for me.
Also is the wing adjustable?and is there any info on actual downforce provided at different speeds?

Any chance of a squared off wing, aka not pretty and curved, with a slit for a gurney lip like on the Grand Am SpeedSource RX8?

For me this will be track only.
Thanks for making parts for our great cars.

The plane/angle of the wing would be adjustable from where it connects to the upright mounts I imagine. And that bump in the middle is there for a reason. Creating a wing with a channel to accept various size gurneys would put the cost of the project out of reach for many. You will achieve the range of downforce you need with the adjustability it will have just fine.

Just to confirm it is adjustable where the wing meets the top of the mout I believe there are five different positions.... I dont get over to my car very offen anymore but I will do my do diligence to make it over there and get some measurments for you guys...

I want it so bad, but it would look so dumb without a kit. aHHH the temptation is killing me. I want to stay with my 99spec lip and OEM sideskirts so I dont worry about hitting stuff.

Does anyone have pics of this on a relatively stock car with flush wheels and slammed? I know there was a red one with pics on a track, but I cant find it.

How does this fit to the car?

I run an FRP boot on my car so bolting a GT wing onto this wouldnt be too good. My plan is to bolt it down to the car and cut away the boot around the wing. Like thet did with the Trial RX7

The deposit required is $300

The difference between the dry and wet carbon constructions would be the weight, strength, and price.

Chris can provide the measurements of his wing when he has the time. Anyone else has the wing could help to provide us some measurements?

As many people have already explained, the top of the mounting bracket where it connects to the wing has an adjustable plate to change the angle of the wing.

I believe RE-Amemiya might have done the wind tunnel tests on the wing besides software simulation to determine its actual down force effects but it would be hard to find those tech data. As far as our research, it would be hard to offer wind tunnel tests on the wing since wind tunnel fees are outrageously expensive.

Yes, as racerjason has mentioned, the surface design of the gt wing is there for a purpose. You would always see the large middle section of the wing to be almost horizontally flat with a slight dent in the middle so that they do not create too much drag as compared to the down force while the car is traveling in a straight path. Drag would slow the car down as down force points perpendicular to the chord line of the wing. The two ends of the wing is slightly tilted more as compared to the middle section to always provide a slightly larger angle of attack for more down force applied onto the sides where the wheels are. The effects of this design can dramatically increase the down force generated as compared to a flat piece during high speed turns. And the end plates are there to guide air flow onto the end of the wing to maximize the down force generated at the wheels. So changing the angle of attack by adjusting the wing mounts can achieve a large difference in both drag and down force for different tracks.

burtoncr, the first two pictures we initially posted actually shows Chris' wing installed before he had our widebody kit on. Maybe Chris has more pictures to share with us?

Gaijin samurai, you are saying you have a FRP hatch? If you are worried about the strength of the hatch, you can also consider reinforcing the top and bottom of the hatch where the brackets goes with sheet metals. You will need to bolt the sheet metals down with extra bolts that way the stress created is spread out to a larger area on the hatch instead of concentrating on the holes where the brackets would bolt to. This method does require the hatch to be of decent quality and construction, otherwise, it will still break if the hatch was built too weak originally. This way, you do not have to cut away materials from the hatch and make it easier to go back to wingless, all you have to do is have a body shop fill those holes and repaint.

jknapik, thanks a lot for posting the pictures, the top three pictures showing the mounts are the original RE-A wings, so which bracket designs are you comparing them to?

He has suggested the possibility of making a copy of the FC mounts for 2nd gen owners if there was enough interest. If he doesn't then I'm prepared to purchase just the wing with the undermounts and make my own uprights.

Yes, as long as someone can supply us with a FC mount, we will make the wing available for FC owners as well.

Thanks for the info. still not keen on having it bolted to the hatch, its decent quality (re-a original) but any downforce the wing may generate will go into flexing the hatch, not puching the back down. would rather bolt it direct to the car. Like the trial one (ill find a better pic) and the apexi one.

Please add your name to the list so it's easier for us to keep a track of who is interested. It will be extremely difficult for us to look back at tons of posts to find who expressed interest.

Please remember to also state if you want FD or FC version.

maybe it is a visual mirage but to me, it looks like these brackets are "shorter" than original ones. if im wrong then by all means lets get this started, but other than that everything seems like its going as planned. Il be submitting deposit ASAP just give me a bit of time, its sort of the drought season for me :S but im trying to manage things.

Keep up good work, cant wait to get all my hardware for the car

Thanks for putting me on the list.
Assuming we get 5 deposits what do you believe to be the rough timetable to be delivered to me/us.
My first track date is in April and if I can get it sometime in the winter to install it I will be 100% in.
Thanks for any info.

It really depends on how fast we can get the deposits and what construction we will be using for the wings. I would say we should be able to get the first batch ready to ship before end of March if nothing major happens during the sample testing since we are planning to take some time off during the Christmas.

Although only moderately scientific the following video helps demonstrate the performance gains from this style wing:
