Turbo Miata -> FD RX-7
Afternoon everyone!
I recently impulse bought an FD, and am currently in the process of learning the "must knows" of RX-7 ownership. Not a car I ever really thought to own, but the price was right and it's a sweet car. This will be my first delve in to rotary world.
I currently daily a 2010 335i 6MT Sedan, and have a 2000 Miata I turboed to be an autocross / track car. The miata made ~225whp on a Garrett ~2554 (T25), with megasquirt as the EMS.
However, I am currently starting the process of parting out the miata to free up space in the garage for the RX7.
The car is a 1993 (not sure what trim level as of yet), with ~60-62k miles on it. The odometer is currently non-functional (along with the speedo, occasionally), so step one will be pulling the dash to look for signs of capacitors letting their smoke out. The car passed GA smog every year with only ~10k miles added from 1998-present. The DOT-2007 tires that came on it seem to back up that math (ordering new ones as soon as I decide whether to keep the stock wheels or not)
Overall, the car is in pretty solid shape. It was non-running when I purchased it, so I had it towed home. Cleaned the plugs and followed the de-flood procedures, and it started right up. There is a slight misfire at lower rpms and while idling, so I am planning to replace the plugs and wires this weekend. Minor hiccup at idle, more significant "bucking" at times at lower RPMs. Very intermittent outside of idle though. Fuel pump/filter will be the next step if it isn't plugs. Also on first start, the coolant nipple freed itself from the air separation tank. Drilled/Tapped/RTVed a brass barb in to place until I get a replacement part. The car does have a dash trim kit that was put in place to cover up a wearing finish on the OEM parts. At some point that will be peeled off and examined to determine a path forward (probably wrap it all black).
Looking forward to being part of the rotary community! (Until it blows up and I swap it for something more American. )

Welcome!! Very nice collection you have! Shame that you're parting out such a nice Miata. I would figure that someone would love to have a built Miata ready to go and that it would sell relatively quickly.
As for the FD, it could be a Touring model that was fitted with the R1 rear spoiler, front air dam, and strut tower bar. If it has a moonroof and the Bode Acoustic Wave sound system, this is very likely what has been done as the R1 was not available with a moonroof. It's hard to tell in the pictures for me if it does or doesn't. Appears that it does not have a moonroof. As mentioned above, maybe it is a true R1 model that someone swapped leather seats into. The R1 had black cloth seats. Does it have dual oil coolers?

Thanks! I am in Lexington.
It was a matter of "do I fix the couple nuances I've been putting up with, or just take all the parts back off." Unfortunately, the latter seems to be the better path at this point.
It does not have a moonroof, and the tape deck does not say "BOSE" on the flap as I have seen in other pictures. I will need to check on the dual oil coolers - I do know it has at least some sort of cooler in the front left vent though.
The carfax is a little funky - "Vehicle manufactured and shipped to dealer" was recorded in March of 1992, but then there is no additional entry until it is sold at an auction with 8800 miles in 1995.

Realized I haven't updated this in a bit, but unfortunately I don't have a lot to say.
A non-functional dash is the main item to get the car back on the road. I sent it off to circuitboardmedics.com, but it was returned non-functional and me $200 poorer. So, back to the drawing board with a pretty sour taste in my mouth. Glad to hear others have had more positive experiences with their services. Several off you will find PMs in your inboxes from me on ones you have for sale!
Once that's squared away, I just need to diagnose the misfire. I am hoping once I replace the 1-2 year old gas, it may sort itself out. So far I have only done plugs and wires, so there is still a lot of troubleshooting to go after a fresh tank of gas.
Lastly, the new plate is in.
