13b + NA Miata = ?
13b + NA Miata = ?
well i submitted my first post over a week ago, never showed up so I will try to intro myself again.
i bought a miata last year with the intention of making it a weekend car that i can drive out to the track at Texas Motorsport Ranch. I actually bought the car FROM a guy out there who raced miatas and gt3 porsches, so it just seemed like the thing to do.
the 7M in my daily driver Cressida blew the HG so plans changed; i had to get the miata streetable soon. it started out in running, driving condition, although it had some hesitation on acceleration and a hunting idle. I did a basic tune-up on it and that was resolved, but i still had to deal with the paint:

i spraybombed it in one afternoon after prepping and priming it over the course of a couple weeks. there are two coats of rustoleum camo on it now and it seems to be holding up well.
i had this idea even before i got the miata that i wanted a rotary-powered vehicle. the combination of people wanting to charge out the *** for anything worth buying in this area combined with the general lack of available cars meant i either had to wait or settle for a hug project anyway, and i liked the idea of a smaller, lighter car as a counterpoint to the Cressida. I started doing some research on swapping a rotary into a miata just for ***** and giggles and found some of the info i was looking for here, and some on other sites.
what i was able to find conflicted: some people say that it is a total PITA and others said it was cake. i guess thats pretty subjective, though. I picked up a non-running 13b and spare tranny from an fc for free and decided to rebuild it and use it to mock up what modifications needed to be done on the miata and when i find a better suited drivetrain i should be ready to swap it in.
