MI Stoked and humbled

I recently acquired a car I have wanted for a long time. It is an red 88 convertible. But not just any 88 red convertible. Its the one they used to make the commercial when it came out where James Garner drives it. The car shipped to California where they made the commercial, then it went to Mazda Great Lakes' (at the time the nation's only franchised Mazda dealership) lobby where it sat for a couple months until the for-sale models started arriving at the dealerships. My father-in-law insured the MGL group at the time and liked the car in the lobby and one thing led to another and he ended up buying it for my mother-in-law. She took good care of it for a number of years but eventually by brother-in-law starting driving it almost as a daily driver and basically put a ton of wear on it. When it starting having some mechanical problems he decided he didn't want to pay to fix it so it went into storage in about 2002. I have always loved this car since I had the first chance to drive it while dating my then girlfriend, now wife. Recently I traded some work and got the car from my father-in-law. It will be a restoration project basically. I'm super geeked about the whole thing. I'm hoping to get a lot of help and maybe some parts from this forum.

In college I did a report on the wankel rotary and was amazed at how it was initially pegged as the next evolution of all internal combustion engines. -very interesting. Anyway, here I am. Oh and here is a link to the commercial that actually has MY care in it, with James Garner at the wheel:
