Son's first car: 1987 RX7
Trying to get it to run, we changed out the plugs and wires, and changed the oil. I think it is the old gas that is causing it to not fire. We are going to siphon that out and put all new fresh gas in it and see if that makes a difference. Overall the car is very nice and in great shape. He wants to do a few modifications to it, wheels, interior, etc.

you don't have to siphon the fuel out. there is a drain plug at the bottom of the tank. the engine could possibly be flooded too. i would pull out the spark plugs and take out the egi fuse under the hood. then crank the engine over to get all the fuel out. put the fuse and plugs back in and see what happens.

Welcome to the forum!! Definitely appears to be a clean 87. How long has the car been sitting? Do you know any of the car's history?
Since this is an intros section, I won't get into the diagnostic aspect of where you need to go. I will just offer some basic things to go over. I would start by confirming you have good clean fuel to the rail, confirm that the fuel pump is operational (they like to fail when sitting), confirm you have spark, perform a proper deflood procedure if you remove the plugs and they are gas soaked. Ensure you used the correct NGK spark plugs as well. Would also like to see more pictures of the car!

It has been sitting for a little over 5 years. We installed new fuel pump also. My dad has owned the car since 1998, I even remember driving it in high school, so it is pretty cool that my son bought it from his grandpa. It would crank over and run for a few seconds with some starting fluid. But I did not want to try to much till I got rid of the old gas and replaced with new. Hoping to get that done this week. I will try and get some more pictures soon, It really is a pretty clean car.

The fuel injectors may be stuck with old gas from sitting. You may want to apply 12V and a ground to each injector and listen for them to click. This will require removing the dynamic chamber sitting. Instslling a new plenum gasket and fuel injector o-rings. Should be done anyways as they are likely hard and will leak if you disturb them.

Here are a few more shots of the car, haven't been able to work on it since both of my boys are on travel baseball teams and have been having practices all week. Hopefully get it running this weekend. He wants to order some 17" wheels to put on it, and already has a set of 245/45-17 tires. Hoping they fit. Probably get some 17x8's. +30 offset.
