The Fc is not terrible on maintenance considering how old the cars actually are.
It gets bad gas mileage in comparison to the 240 you are driving now.
However I myself will admit I originally started looking for a 240 and wound up getting a 7 just to be different and have never regretted it.
Hope that helps a bit I would however recommend you read This http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/why.htm

RHD Track Whore
I have owned an S13 hatch. They are reliable and cheap to repair. There are tons of aftermarket part as well, so you can mod sloly and without spending too much money.
A TII FC is a faster car stock though.

I <3 240's... If it was a coupe, I would def. say keep it, but never was a huge fan of the hatches. They are both great cars, go with whatever you get the best deal on!

I've owned several 240sx's being a Nissan guy and currently own an '87 FC RX7, 2x Q45's, 2x Thundercats, and recently sold my '88 RX7 to a local.
That being said, I prefer the the RX7 over the 240sx.
It may be the fact that its a light weight rear wheel drive car that isn't as cramped as a S13 240sx. (I'm 6'2" & 210lbs)
Maybe its the body style, the sharp lines, or maybe I am just too much of a motorhead. (At least according to the wifey)
Either way you should get the car that you like the most and feel the most comfortable/synced/in tune with that fits your budget.
Ultimately its your choice and you will have to live with it regardless of what I think, or any other member here thinks for that matter.
Good luck with whichever car you decide upon..

rx7's are good then again 240's are well worth working with.
i might have missed something, but before you swap out the 40, are you planning
to do anything with it? is it a zenki or a chuki?

FC3Ss will likely need a rebuild, that is money right off the bat. So hoefully the car is cheap.
Would you rather have a 13BT or a SR20DET? Life is easier with a SR20 as most people can work on them. Whereas very few can do a great job on 13Bs and along with that you get people trying to rip you off. If you live near good rotary shops or know people that can work on them and the pricing is good, then it's not so bad.
Couple downsides for 240s: low engine power because no turbo, 4 lug hubs, small inside (surprising to me), ugly tail lights and very ordinary (good/bad thing).
Good things about 240s: very common, huge selection of parts from engine to aero, better fuel mileage, cheaper overall and no need for special skills to work on them.
Downsides to FCs: likely will need rebuild, need special skills to work on the engine, smaller selection of parts from engine to aero, lower fuel economy, runs hot, loud and catches lots of attention (police stoppings).
Good things about FCs: more power because of turbo, requires more skill to drive (fun), very unique, near 50/50, light weight, shoots flames, sounds nice and aggressive lines (good/bad thing).
I got a FC because it had turbo stock, it's very unique and requires some skills to drive. Plus I like the dual exhaust and hood scoop.
The reason I got a 180sx is because it was free. Good reason, huh?

Thing about aero kits. The 240sx has wide selection that can really make it look like **** or really nice. Huge options, always a good thing.
The FC doesn't have much of a choice, most aero are similar. One thing that I dislike very much about the FC is the front fenders, anything above 25mm really looks nasty. So most people just use 17s for the front and 18s in the rear.

it really depends if you want a more reliable car. between these cars, i cant say any of them is, but the 240sx more than the rx7 mainly because when buying a rx7 your looking to keep constant maintainance on it. hope that helps.

All I have to say is the 240SX is nice with an SR20 Motor, but ever since I got my first Rotary I was addicted!!! I'm more into American Muscle Cars, but Rotary is my Jap Muscle! Never will go back unless I snag a 69' Camaro!
