The rotary bug

It may go into remission from time to time but you are rarely 'cured' from it.

I've owned 3 FCs, 2 8s, and I'm getting the itch to finally get and FD.

I like to weigh options, I've also owned a BRZ. Personally, not as good, but much newer and all the bits and pieces that wont have 25 years of wear and tear. Though I suppose the right FD for the right price will be mostly up to speed by a loving owner.

The FD has been a dream car since its launch. I'm here to refresh and research all the things I learned back then and all the things that may have changed since.

I plan/hope to be able to find a well loved one for sale in the next several months to a year. Patience is a virtue, imo, when hunting rotaries.

If anyone wants to talk me down from insanity and justify the practicality of say, the brz instead, go for it. If you want to encourage me to dive back down the rabbit's hole, this time deeper to the ultimate rotary car, I also encourage that!

I have my ideas, tastes, past plans for this dream car; for me, it's more of a keep it mostly stock, reliability mods, 99 bumper, more of a sleeper, as much as an FD can be. Quiet, stock diameter wheels, no funky gauge clusters ... clean, except maybe a non stock paint job or wrap in a color that moves me. NO TJ Hunt level debauchery from me, I found his brz to be atrocious personally style wise, enough so I didnt see what he did to the FD because I was afraid I'd cringe. Even Rob Dahms 4 rotor chassis is a bit much for my tastes, i like the 99+ style enough i wouldn't do much past that.

Well, i hope that works for an introduction now it's time to sift through the faqs and threads I've read many times in the past, to see all the things to look out for today, that must be done, and if any of the 8 knowledge transfers over (such as a Sohn adapter), outside general PM, TLC, etc.

If you made it this far, thanks! Take care

Sounds like you have a good plan. The FD is an amazing car that will out handle and run circles around a BRZ. Plus the seats in the FD are more comfortable. The BRZ seats just don't feel right to me in the shoulder area. That said, I feel as though if you went for the BRZ, you may look back and wish you had bought your dream car, the FD.

Agreed on the brz seats, and the seatbelts are awkward. The steering feel and precision is amazing.

My fears of the FD might be different than most. I've loved and owned rotaries for, hard to believe it, 25 years. My concerns lay in how many of the non-engine components that may prove troublesome or need of replacement, just from the age of the car. Probably over thinking it.

Have pondered on it quite a bit, and agree I'd regret spending 30k on a brz instead of a 7. Trading off the fact I love the FD styling, rotaries, for a warranty; and I've kicked myself in the **** for all the times I passed them up when they were going for much cheaper :p

I will enjoy playing cat and mouse with my friend in their brz, it is always more fun to be the cat

I'm afraid I'll want to get a TII as well, nostalgia love that body style too

I have a couple TII's and they are great cars! They are reasonably quick and handle very well. They are comfortable and reliable as far as Rotaries are concerned. Even a properly running NA FC is a great car to drive! I had a 60k mile 88 SE for a bit and it ran and drove phenomenally well.
