and off of the history check this...

Rite well not going good so far, i went to pick the car up yesterday and handed cash over filled out log book and went to drive away and the car wouldnt start!

The seller said he had started it and driven in 2m foward out of his garage and switched it off and that it probley was flooded as this was a common fault with his old one he had too wich he had to pull start to get running.

So a little annoyed as it was a 4 hour round trip for the 2nd time and still no car.

Will look up if it is normal for these to flood so easily or if it has a fault and needs looking at before i give him back the cash for it.

Any input?

Thanks, Dan.

Hi Kent guy...

Yep as far as I know these flood very easily and its a bugger to go through the procedure to get them back to the unflooded position again. I've had to do it a dozen times, sometimes in the dark with a torch in my mouth, nice.

But you have to really love these cars to own one, perhaps it's like a marriage that has its ups and downs, and sometimes you have to go to counciling hahaha
but your only 22 so you'll have all of that to come...

You got one with a sunroof you lucky man, I'd like to have one put in mine.
That is really cheap insurance, I got mine in 2003 at 25 yrs old and the cheapest quote I found was £1900 fire and theft, your lucky!!

Hope you enjoy the car man. It's a looker!!

Hey dude! Where abouts in Kent are you!?
I'm near Maidstone....flooding is common, when the guy came to collect my other FD, didnt quite have enough in the battery..flooded it...so spent an hour or so changing the plugs...and away it went!

Hi charlie uk yep that seems to be what these cars are all about but i am just hanging on at the moment untill he gets it started and i can go collect still cant wait!!

Do you know of any rx7 specialists around the london way?

And charlie p yea the battery on it was half dead but by the time we put the jump pack on it i think it was too late and it had already flooded cranking slowly.

I am also from near maidstone lol, used to live in lenham but have recently moved to charing spend most of my time in maidstone tho, shopping drinking and driving although the car scene there has pretty much dissapeared in the last few years!

Where bouts are you from? Ive seen a green rx7 about but thats all!!

Wicked sounds good.

Got the car yesterday he got it started by pulling the fuel pump fuse or relay turning it over a few times then putting it back in (after charging the battery also!)

Starts ok now but i think there is a few problems with it.

Was cruising about and impressed with the performance up to 4000ish rpm then when i got used to the feel of the car thought i would go for the red line only to be massivley dissapointed! It really pulles to 4500 then when the larger turbo should start boosing it feels like a N/A engine! So i suspect that has a problem and isnt doing anything!

Also when you put the clutch down at junctions etc the revs drop right down to about 500rpm almost stalls then come back up to arounf 900rpm and idles at that.

Do you know of any specialists locally? I am a HGV mechanic but this is a little different lol.

P.S I should be moving to maidstone next week so even more local. Just off of Junction 7

How many miles are on the car? You know these engines start to go at about 90k.

55k had 12 dealer services in that time and couple of oil changes in the last few years that arnt stamped.

Been sitting for the last 7 years so could be something like a seized actator rod or collapsed vacuum pipe but i dont know much about them yet so doing some research.

The turbo thing could be an actuator, or even just a solenoid, which is fairly easy to fix.

Might be doing a drive down to Brighton on Sunday if you want to come, about 20 RX7s/8s meeting there!!

Cheers chaps!

Got the 2nd turbo working, the E clip for the actuator rod had rotted away and dropped off so the rod came disconnected.

Am still having starting problems tho.

Have taken the plugs out and am going to fit new leads also.

Am going to use

BUR7EQP for the 2 leading
and
BUR9EQP for the 2 trailing

Does that sound right?

Dan.
