New Member, Who Dis?

Howdy y'all,

I have recently become the 3rd owner of this 1986 Mazda RX-7. After reading this wonderful thread: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...atures-642372/ by Icemark, I believe my RX-7 was equipped with the Luxury Package back in '86. I'll verify with the VIN later. This car was passed down from an uncle to a nephew, and I had the opportunity to buy it from said nephew a couple of weeks ago. It is just a shell. I've been wanting a S5 Turbo II the last 8 years but I hadn't found one in the condition/price point I was looking for. When I found this S4 for only $400, I couldn't pass it up, so I jumped on it. Now that I think about it, this shell will be perfect for what I want to do. I couldn't ruin a Turbo II with what I want out of this FC.

As mentioned it is a shell, so there isn't a motor or transmission. As some may have guessed, I will be LS-swapping it. "Boo." Stone me later. I've envisioned my FC with an LS up until about 2 years ago. I plan to LS1 swap this car. I would love to own a rotary, but I don't have all the money in the world for both an LS and a rotary (not yet anyway). If I did have all the money in the world, I would own a stock, low-mileage, Montigo Blue Mica FD RX-7. This car resides up in WA for the moment, however, I will be sending it back home to TX, ideally, by the end of the year. Until then, I will be doing as much prep work as I can, I'll be shopping around for everything I need both here in WA and down in TX.

The purpose of this car is to have a nice, fun, street-able, weekend car, that I can take my wife on a date in, get down in the twisties, and fulfill most of my sports car itches I had as a kid. I would like no less than 350whp, and no more than 450whp out of this. I do plan on taking this car to the grave with me. I have no timeline, only expectations of hundreds of hours of meticulous, frustrating work. I took this project on a little sooner than I wanted, so it will take some time to get it where I want it. Add in the fact that I am a perfectionist, and am willing to take my time with this. Let the games begin!

Thanks for reading!

P.S. I'm trying to figure out how to upload photos here. I keep attempting to upload and each photo gets to 50% before I get a blank prompt box with "Alert!" showing. I've tried hitting the picture icon, I've tried the manage attachments button, I've tried browsing to my photos folder on my PC, I've tried dragging and dropping. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All files were already reduced to 50% their size in the case that had to do with the issue.

Welcome to the forum

Contrary to what you may think, a lot of people here are pretty receptive to engine swaps. I wouldn't do it personally, but in my book taking a non-running car and making it a running car is a success, no matter what engine. Do what makes you happy, and make a build thread for it in the 2nd Gen section so we can see.

Congratulations on your purchase

From an outward glance into the RX-7 community, I've seen a lot of disdain for anything other than a rotary. And I can understand that from the perspective of an RX-7 purist; there are many cars, including the FD, that I would not swap. I'm glad to hear that is not the case for a lot of ppl here, seeing as I'll be splitting my reading-time and energy on here and Norotors.com. I will absolutely start a build thread once I gain some ground on the project.

Thanks for all the kind words y'all!
