New from Georgia
Hello all!
My name is Jamaul and I'm 22. My dad has had an RX-7 for about 13 years now and it has spent the last 6 years sitting in our backyard. He has decided to pass it on to me as long as I promise not to sell it. I know he loves this car to death, but he does not have the time or money to put into it right now. My dad and I have never really bonded much until I started getting into cars about a year ago.... I think making this RX-7 my project car will help bring us together a bit more.
Now that you know a bit about me, let's move on to the car. I'll provide pics and a build thread soon.
It is a 1986 RX-7 FC S4 GXL. First step will be to get this sucker running and start cleaning up the interior. Squirrels have decided the rx makes a comfortable home >.<
A few questions fellas....
1. What would be the cost to convert this bad boy into a manual from auto? I'm sure this has been asked a lot, but I'm dead serious.... If we are only talking about $600-$1000 then I will most def get it done.
2. If converted to manual, is it actually practical? Will the car actually feel like it came in manual, or like some rigged up wannabe?
3. Would $6000 cover an LS1 swap?
4. If I decide to keep the stock motor for a while, is there a turbo kit available or will I need to buy a turbo S4 13b?
5. What are some essential mods that you guys recommend? I know every car has a "list" of mods that really help to improve performance, handling, etc. (for example, the stock headers on my spec v sentra suck...so we get awesome gains with aftermarket race headers)
The goal is to get this thing back on the road, then slowly turn it into an auto-x only car. I have a daily driver, so this car does not need to be street legal in the long run.
I look forward to being a part of this community.

Welcome to the forum Jamaul. I'm Ron.
I would stick to a rotary, but an LS1 swap ....Are you planning on prepping the car on your own with your dad? The swap kits and sourcing out the motor and tranny with legit prep work custom exhaust, upgrade the driveshaft...etc...probably I'd say $10000 to $12000 for a legit and clean LS1 swap for a FC. No short cuts. I've talked to Hinson Super Cars before about an LS1 for my S14 and they have full conversion kits and turn key builds, but say look for the best knowledge on this forum.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the info. I will most likely stay away from the LS1 if it is going to run me that much. Besides... you just don't see too many rotary cars these days Makes sense to stay rotary.
