New guy trying to deciding on FD or rx8

This is my first time posting a thread but most likely i've probably look at alot of the other guys threads on here about FDs. Im just in love with that car or just about any rotary but the FD has my heart and i looked and looked but no one gives a clear answer how many miles a rebulit usually last they always say how many years since the rebulit.
It has me worried if i should buy one or not or just go get a rx8 for about the same price but with more miles on it than i want. Yeah of course with it will have all the reliability mods done plue water AI for summer and alcohol for winter which i won't drive it much since im not looking for a daily driver, thats what civics are for so i wanna find out how many miles they last b4 i dish out close to 10 grand on one

FD is a good car for guys that like to tinker. Its over 15 years old and generally needs a fair amount of attention. It is pretty fast out of the box, handles well and has good brakes. Its also a bit uncomfortable.

The RX8 is a newer car that doesn't need much in the way of maintenance and attention. Still fun to drive but not exactly fast.

If you are only looking to spend around $10k, scratch the FD off the list. Anything you buy for that price will need another $5-10k to make reliable.

Go to the 3rd gen FAQ and start doing your research. its in this sticky

yeah but it won't be totally stock its hard to find those now but the mods will only be front mount intercooler, AI before turbos, AsT, and new rad most of the other must have goodies like A/F gauge, water temp and boost which i have no problem paying extra for. I just don't wanna buy it and have it break down at 9k miles while im out on a date cause thats mostly what it will be used for and cruising and once in a while road trips

for 10k you will get a decent stock rx7, for 10k you will get a crap stock rx8. and being a former owner of an rx8 (look at my intro thred for pics) i sold it to buy an rx7. in the 2 years i had the 8 i learned alot about rotaries, like you have to be all or none, no shortcuts at all. if you are willing to treat the car like it is supposed to be then get the 7. ill be the first to tell you, an 8 wont get more than 300hp reliably...and thats a HEFTY bit on the optomistic side. a 7 on the other hand can have 350 daily driven.

so get the 7, forget the 8, and ask for shop receipts on a rebuild to make sure its not a garage job, and then call the shop and ask what they did.

how many miles are on the FD you're looking at? never trust the seller's words, ask for receipts or call BS if he says it's been rebuilt recently. when i bought mine the owner said the engine had 7k on it. 10k later i have a blown engine that ate it's primary turbo and both housings were cracked. look throught my pics in the sad day album. I'm still glad I got it, but I'm a government contractor so I had the 15 grand to sink into a full rebuild and safe buildup after it crapped the bed

Sounds like you'd be better off with the RX8. Anything as old as an FD will probably break down in 9k miles.

yeah notoque i've been looking on ebay and yeah most of the rx8s i can afford have like 60k+ miles on them and i know pretty damn much about rotarys, i mean i acutally have the rats nest daiagram as my wallpaper for i can memorize it. A fresh rebuild like around 20k miles and i always ask them if they have receipts on the rebuild but don't get me wrong i would love to work on a rotary i think they are very intresting it just gets to me when i've been readying about them forever now when i have enough money i seen stuff like this

na rotaries are much more dependable. i had an FB with over 200k on the odometer. it blew a coolant hose though and i cooked the engine :/ my FD didn't even have 100k on the odo when it ate itself

For $10K, I think you have a better chance at getting a reliable RX-8 than an FD...

rx8's are nice and all. but i like going fast right out of the box. and if you do too. an FD would be better. it sucks there so expensive tho.
