Never had a car like this before...
Hi, I'm Sarah from Southern California. I bought a second gen NA last month from meximan and I've pretty much died and gone to heaven. (not sure how to add to his trader score yet, but I'll do it once I figure it out) I enjoy writing so this is rather long.
I've always been driving an auto tranny civic for the last 6 years and I finally got a job that'll let me spend my cash away on the racing spirit that never really got fed. As soon as I got a full time job, my car shopping began-- can't really do much with an AT civic except make it all show and no go and maybe practice some steering. Fortunately for me, I work at a technical school with an auto shop in the back so I had a wealth of information to go on, not to mention excellent people in my life with cars of their own to love.
I almost bought a 96 prelude, considered going really poor for an S2000, and almost got myself an e30. But instead, after all the time deliberating, I learned about how a rotary engine works and was intrigued. I'd never seen an Rx7 on the road before but I have seen initial d and recalled the excellence of the FC on that note. Anyway, I found meximan's 7 on craigslist, found out he was here, checked the car out multiple times, came home with it.
This is not only the first time I've bought a car with my own money, but the first time I'm driving manual, first rear wheel drive, first rotary, and first time I'm throwing a lot of money away. I figured that the most excellent way to pop cherries is to get something without pistons.
But anyway, now or never is what I said. I look forward to what the rx7 will give me-- the car definitely does not accept me yet. I plan to keep it all NA but to make it run smooth as butter. My technical knowledge is the most basic of basic but you can't help but learn more every day with a car like this.
--Cold start needs a little gas or it dies (flooded? I hope not) and I haven't done a single thing to improve it's current state.
--I'm battling smog at this time... It passed visual but it failed from high HC (not too high though, how much will Lucas additive actually help?)
--Will keep the body mostly stock except maybe a front lip and change the suspension for just an inch drop.
--The original rims are still there but I'll be changing those at some point.
--She also has a 3 foot long crack across the windshield.
--I would like to give it a superior cooling system, as good as street application would need (with occasional track use). I've never been to a track before, only been go karting at K1 (and that was only once actually...)
--I also have no radio so it looks like I got jacked-- I want to find the original factory radio with the tape deck just for coolness points. I feel like I don't really need music in the car with the rotary sound there
--There is also an oil leak. What kind? I think from the o2 sensor and the oil pressure sensor. About 5 drops per night
--Btw, rebuild was about 55k miles ago and the chassis has 157k on it.
--Steering could be tighter
--The redline buzzer works!
--I'm really short, my eyes are below the top of the steering wheel.
Anyhow, I haven't felt this lovesick in a long time. The Rx7 is excellent. Thank you world.

I've never been to k1 anaheim but I hear the night racing is excellent because there's some trippy tunnel action going on there (I'll be going this Thursday actually after 5 and chill for an hour or two while I let traffic die down-- I'll have my 7 with me because it's getting registered at DMV that morning). I've only go karted at k1 irvine once and visited k1 ontario to watch my friend so I'm just getting into it. It feels good going 45 (sometimes 50) in that tiny thing
You should seriously check it out-- it's fun even when you don't go with your friends because if you go enough you'll start running into the same faces (my friend goes a lot, that's how I know). Expensive stuff though but it's cheaper than tracking and autocross all the time. After all, there's a reason why sevenstock reserved the irvine track for Friday before the show

Welcome! NA FC is a great car to play around with and learn... my very first car(11yrs ago) was a '91 NA and I've been hooked ever since.
The first thing I did on mine was steam clean/seafoam the engine, some ppl say it doesn't do much, others praise it. I def noticed an improvement after so may be something to look into. Sounds like you're on the right track tho... keep it clean/rice free.

Thanks-- I'm just worried about water and stuff getting into the distributor or something, but I definitely appreciate a clean and shiny engine bay I've used simple green in my civic before, just afraid to do it in the 7... I'm trying to figure out what else I need to cover before I wash it.

Sorry, I meant putting/injecting water into the engine to 'steam clean' the internals...

It's fine to clean the engine bay as well just yeah keep away from anything electrical or cover it up with something(plastic grocery bags work for me).

^^ I'll have to think about that kind of steam clean...
^I enjoy photography but I haven't had a day to devote to putting the FC against a nice backdrop. I'm thinking of gmr when I improve the brakes, a beach photo session or a nighttime parking lot thing. The windshield has a 3 foot long crack and the body has yet to be waxed and polished so I still kinda feel it's not photo ready-- although I'm sure many would argue that it's quite alright the way it is. Eventually there will be pictures.

Welcome to the board I'm also new to this RX7 forum eventhough I had FC's 10years ago and had them a few(13fc's all together) with my friends and cousins. I never into forum until I got my 95 Supra then started going in RX7 and Z32 forums. I have a guy cross a street from has FC TurboII right now. I dont know if he's in this forum haha! Just helped him took out a broken bolts of the thermostats pipe for him few weeks back.
So, are you able to drive stick now or you havent learned it, yet?
