My introduction

Hello all,
Unfortunately I do not currently own a RX7, but I love their looks and the rotary platform intrigues me a lot, so maybe some day!.
Right now I have a 1987 Nissan 300zx as my first and only current car. It's currently NA, but I plan on adding a turbo in the near future. I've already come across good information in regards to turbocharging and tuning here, but the main reason I decided to join is because I picked up some tuning electronics that have little information available online, and a member here somewhat recently listed one that is very intact. I am hoping I can get some better information about what I have (plus I'm missing a part of the modular harness so I'd like to be able to recreate it). I was going to try and message him but it seems like I don't have account privileges to do so, so rather than be a silent lurker I thought I'd make an introduction post.

I don't have a ton of money to give to my car, plus I'm a backwards guy with no real interest in modern engine management so I purchased a GReddy Rebic III for a good price. Thanks to this forum I have a rough understanding of how to use it. I'm also a big fan of archiving information and covering what isn't available online so I'd like to release whatever I can learn.

Sorry for the lack of RX7 in this post!

boosting an NA z31 is a HUGE job and wildly expensive. you would be better off buying a factory turbo one. the boost controller you have there will be of no use to you unless you were a factory turbo. boosting the na will require a new ecu unless you can manage to get an oem turbo ecu. even then you would still need the injectors that would be 36 years old at this point. so going with a modern aftermarket injectors would force you to buy a standalone which will have a boost control function built in.

honestly..... quit. do not attempt to turbo the z31. you will waste your money and more importantly your time. even if you did manage to cobble it together, it will not be good and you will always be chasing something. its an extremely old motor. to do this properly you would need to tear the whole thing down and build it back up. if you're committed to the chassis then look into swaps. an rb20 or an sr20 would be better suited. move on from this fantasy before you invest any serious money or time into it.

I already have most of the pricey components to add a turbo as a friend donated some bigger pieces of the puzzle when he upgraded his setup. What I have is an additional injector controller instead of a boost controller. I've already given my engine a rebuild, about a year ago when it started burning oil... even then it's been undergoing maintenance on the suspension so the engine is not fully broken in yet.
Thanks for the reply

Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your turbo swap in your 300ZX. Any pictures of the car to share? Definitely look around the forum and read through some threads. You'll be falling in love with the RX-7 in no time. You can even look through the regional section and if there are any meets coming up, maybe swing out snd see if you can go for a ride in a 7. You'll be hooked!

Thank you for the replies. Didn't get a chance to reply earlier because my pc was down.
mazdaverx713b, now that you mention it I really should look for make/model specific meets and get a better look at some RX7s. Never thought of doing so til now.

Here's a picture of my car, it sits a bit funny and the hood needs some work done to it, but the AC blows cold and it's never left me stranded since I did the engine. Great daily and I enjoy working on it.
