Thank You,

I have only been working for Tri-Point for just over a year now. We haven't had a dyno day in a while. We should probably have another one.

Yeah, Because Mazda shifted our efforts from Racing to Time Trials we are really focusing on customer cars now. We have been starting to produce our previously race only parts to our TT/racing customers. I will probably post some pics of the ongoing projects here in the shop. Like our Unlimited FWD Time Attack 2010Mazda 3. It has really changed since its short stint in World Challenge.

Welcome EB Turbo, I'm a newbie here too. I just might have some questions about my FD running boggy on high temp days, pretty sure I just need to lower the boost and upgrade the intercooler though ^_^

Pettit racing ECU. Runs fairly rich under boost so I sort of think the stock ignition system might not be up to the challenge and its blowin' out spark (kinda what it sounds like....almost like a rev limiter...not pinging (I know the difference) feels like the ignition cuts off. Any ideas on ways I might be able to figure this out without just throwing parts at it?

Did it always do this? How rich? What type of wide band are you using? Where is it placed? When you say rev limiter, how hard does it hit? Is it like a hard rev limiter? Or is it like the engine just does not want to accelerate anymore?

Primary coils are a common failure. You can remove both leading wires and put spark plugs in them and test. See how snappy the spark is. A leading coil failure will exhibit similar symptoms as you are describing.

Also how are your vacuum lines?

Interesting, I was thinking it is a ignition problem. Vacuum lines were all replaced last year. I'm using an Innovate wide-band, its mounted right when the down pipe curves to run parallel with the frame, like 2.5 feet down the down pipe. she runs down to 10-11 A/F under 14psi, it used to blow black smoke (better than white! lol) but I'm thinkin she needs a tune up is all, probably fouling spark plugs that rich, also I'm going to replace the plug wires. Ever upgrade the ignition system on an FD and any recommendations? or is the stock coils fairly good?

That is pretty rich. maybe a little too rich, but only by .5-.6 AFR. does the motor feel like it is lacking power from when it first got the setup it has now? If so I would say coil.

The car feels just as powerful as always, only on hot days before I get driving much. like the intercooler is heat soaking just sitting there, or something. I'll give it some plugs (I've been too lazy to take them out and too broke to replace them) so I haven't visually looked to see if they are fouled. I've only owned the car like 6 months, but when I first got it, it would smoke like a diesel under load, but now it does not....I did not boost it until I installed a wide-band A/F and the ratios have been the same, just the smoke went away. Maybe he let the car sit a lot and they got gunked up mysteriously or something and I had to just do an italian tune-up lol (the kind where you hot rod it to burn the carbon build up off, often ferrari mechanics have to do so because the owners baby their cars instead of drive them) of course, only do so once the engine is fully warmed and let it idle for a few minutes after stopping.
