CA Intro from Southern California

Born again RX-7 new guy...

I just bought a 79 RX-7 that is just like the one I had in High School (88).

About to turn 40, and trying to turn back the hands of time a bit.

The car seems pretty solid, so I don't think I have to worry about much right now. I'll be reading up on a 13B swap in the near future.

ManicG,
I live in Mission Viejo. I work in Costa Mesa. I've got some old high school buddies that live down in SD. Might have to bring the RX-7 down that way. Do you guys have any local get togethers?

Poch,
I stumbled across mine on ebay, but have found two similar vehicles on Craigs List. They are out there.

RX-7 Killas,
CA is definitely "Home of the Hondas". Funny!

theotherguy,
I actually pass by that big thermometer in Barstow every so often. There is a good chance I'll be passing by heading South when I pick up my car, although I may have to fork out the dough to have it shipped.

I really don't know that much about the desireable rotary motors yet. I was told that I should look for an old school 13b truck motor for a future swap. I don't know it that is a direct bolt in, but I'm going to find out.

That's one thing that I love about old school Pontiac muscle cars. I have three Poncho motors (326, 400, and 455). Each motor has the same external dimensions and will bolt right in. AWESOME!

I've read about the Renisis motor that I think is the RX-8 motor. I'd love to have a fuel injected RX-7, but I'm not sure how adventerous I'll be this time around. I've gotten screwed by the smog ****'s more than once!

I loved that car. I ran out of gas so many times, but at least I could push it to the nearest gas station, where I could dig $1.18 out from the console or under the seats to get home. Unfortunately, when the exhaust went, I couldn't afford to keep it any longer. The tires were bald too. I've regretted it ever since.

You are right though, I wouldn't buy any of the cars that 99% of the people I went to high school drove. There were always a few exceptions however.

I want to be sure I've done my homework. I bought a '77 Dodge Ram Charger figuring I wouldn't need to worry about smog. Of course, the rolling '30 got set at '75 later that same year. I had to buy a bunch of (expensive) smog stuff missing from the truck because of that.

I want to find out if a 12a can rebuilt into a 13b or better by simply changing internals. I read that the rotors are wider, but don't know if the blocks are the same otherwise.
