OR Got an FC to daily drive

Got an '88 FC to daily drive, it's my first time owning a rotary and it's been super fun so far. I'm curious about how other's experiences daily driving their rx7, and just owning them in general, have been. If you guys have any tips to offer for owning a 7 I'd really like to hear them too, thanks

Welcome! What trim level is your 88 and do you have any pictures to share? The key to longevity in these cars is not to abuse them and to over maintain them. they are extremely reliable if you take care of them. Use the correct weight of oil and do not go more than 3000 miles in between oil changes.

It's a gxl, I really like having the leather seats, power windows and the sunroof lol. I don't have any pictures right now but I can put some up soon. I'm using castrol gtx 10w 30 non-synthetic, let me know if there's a different weight of oil I should be using.

The owners manual states 20w50 for above freezing and at or below to use 10w40. I also use only Castrol GTX non synthetic oil. I've used it since the 90's with excellent results.

Welcome to the board.

I'm definitely in for photos as well. Does your GXL have back seats?

I've gotta say man, the parking job and photo angle of the first picture makes her look like a rock crawler my god! Clean looking wheels and the GXL badge looks be in good shape as well. Plus she runs and the pop ups work? Looks like you're off to a good start. Welcome to the club.

As for the oil question... EVERYONE has an opinion on it (seriously search for it and you'll be amazed). Personally I've stuck with Castrol GTX 10W30 and 5W30 with Idemitsu premix on mine. The best tip I can give you is research and get to know your car its motor, change your oil often (3k miles), and always keep an eye on your oil pressure and coolant temp gauges. You never want to overheat any motor but it goes double for the rotary.

I take it the photos were taken somewhere other than your house ... OR ... you have friends with rotaries, because I spied a Rx-5/Cosmo and two Rotary Pickups in your photo. That is great stuff.

Nice GXL. It looks pretty clean, even without the paint. I always liked them back in the day (actually, the blue on your bumper was the color I wanted ). I hope to see your progress posted up around the Gen 2 section whenever you are able.

Yeah I had some work done on it at a rotary specialist's place, he has some super cool and rare rotary cars like a couple NSU wankels and pretty much all the rx's.

And thanks man , the blue bumper is the color of my mom's old fc so she digs it hahaa, such a nice color.

The car really looks to be rust free and straight. You can always repaint it the original Tornado Silver and it would look fantastic!!
