ND Bought a FB, new to the forums!

Hey, my name is Justin and I recently picked up an '85 GSL for 500 bucks.. I've been googling for information daily and it always brings me back to rx7club! I figured I'd better join haha, seems like it wont be hard to get questions answered on here. Soon enough the long winter will be here and I'll hopefully be doing a complete teardown..! I will have pictures up as soon as I can resize my photo..!

Great deal on the car, Justin! You're right in surmising that all the answers you need will be found here on RX-7 Club and that there will also be a dearth of fellows telling you what to do with your car!

Welcome aboard! The more 1stgen folk who join, the better!

Yeah welcome in. I've been to Minot before, not much going on. We've got a place in Great Falls and my buddy Rick lives near Great Falls and we go east near Glendive hunting each fall.

This is a good helpful thing. What are you planning to do for the car?

Nice choice in a FB I always wanted to put a nice small block chevy in one. I know I know its on the dark side but what a power to weight ratio it would be!!!

The power-to-weight ratio does go up but the car becomes a better quarter mile door slammer than a sportscar...the brakes and handling are compromised too much in an FB by how much cast iron is ahead of the crossmember...and don't get me started on the Ford Cleveland!

Sorry it took so long, here are some pictures. I am not sure if I'm supposed to post pics this size, or what they should be so let me know.

Before I bolted on the front lip

The momo shift ****, pioneer deck and the toyo tires are worth more than I paid for the car haha, I love it!

I have BIG plans for this car. I'm going to keep it ROTARY, though ls1's and 302 fords went through my mind at first, I remembered why I sold my 5.0 mustang in the first place haha. Gas milage (not that my 12a is doing much better with 160k), paired with minot being considered a 'remote location', and BP's oil spilling habits, there is no telling how much gas will cost now-a-days.

I have decided to swap a turbo 2 13b into it, and am just trying to gather as much information as I can right now. My biggest conflict is the whole fuel injected vs carbed situation. As much as I'd love to keep the engine injected.. I think I am going to put a carb on it. Still looking for conversion kits from racing beat.. can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, does anyone know who sells the driveshaft from the t2 tranny to the 1st gen rear end? .. I could probably be posting these in a different section.. so back to my plans.

Keep the car clean, stock on the outside. I'm going to buff it and get some of the hail dents out of the hood, but thats about it appearance wise. 4 x 110 rims are the hardest thing to find in the world.. but mesh 15 x 7's is what i have seen around here and there, so hopefully I can pick a set up.

I think I'm just going to make it into a nice little DD/ autocross car, fmic, carbon fiber accents here and there, maybe a harness bar. That sounds kinda vague but thats how I imagine it haha. Hopefully get somewhere around 250hp.. and I would be more than happy.

Well theres some info.. let me know what you think! And believe me, the car has been washed since the pictures haha. Much nicer pictures to come after I get my crashed netbook back. Thanks

Well said about Minot haha. We have oil, an air base, and a whole lot of space. Lacking much in the tuner seen, but hopefully not for long. Where there is a will there is a way!
