CA The beginning of my rotary journey. 1988 GTU FC3S

Hey everyone. My name is Carter, I am 20 years old and I am finally able to get hands on with my passion in cars. Growing up, cars have been a huge fascination of mine. From Hotwheels to videogames, I loved it all. I was fortunate enough to use a family truck to daily for years, but I wanted to reignite my passion of sports cars. In my city I am surrounded by American muscle and the typical jdm. I was so bored of seeing the same cars and trends every day. In my high school years I had a dream of owning an Rx7, an FD specifically. Seeing that car on the front of Need for Speed Prostreet, watching Han drive the Veilside Rx7 in Fast and Furious, and learning about RE Amemiya. I knew I wanted an FD. I had little to no knowledge of the previous generations of the Rx7. Every FC I had seen before was a neglected daily or an absolute junker. In my eyes the 2nd gen was overshadowed by the 3rd. Falling more in love with the rotary, I then decided to look at the other rotary chassis. The cosmo, Rx2, REPU, 767b, and more, I love and appreciate them all. About 2 years ago I almost got my hands on a manual 95 base Rx7 in vintage red. Being a dumb kid still learning how things work in the adult life, I quickly realized I could not afford it and wasted that man's time. I became discouraged from being able to own a car that I would love. I went from driving 4 hours to find out an S2000 was sold to getting yelled at by a used car salesman for calling him out on price gouging on another s2k. I even gave my local Toyota dealership a thankfully refundable deposit for a new Premium GR86. I was so set on getting that car, until months went buy and nothing came. Back to facebook marketplace. Then the Rx7 was brought back to my car search. I had found a beautiful 88 GTU in sunrise red. I never considered an FC until then. I got my deposit back from Toyota and picked it up. I learned stick on the way home through LA traffic sadly. It was pretty scary at first but a good amount of youtube videos and parking lot practice got me home with a functional clutch. A month has passed and I am finally able to introduce myself with my own Rx7 on this forum. The only plans I have for it at the moment are to restore the car to its beauty.

Halfway home from picking it up

Love those pop-ups

Interior still reeks of a vanilla scented air freshener

Finally home in one piece Letting her cool down

Next to my brother's 04 lsb e46 m3

During the worst time to buy a vehicle, I got my Rx7. I am excited to learn more about these cars, the history, and the people that keep its legacy alive.

Welcome to the forum!! Your GTU is gorgeous and appears to have been very well cared for over the years! Do you know any of the car's history? I love that you intend to keep it original as well! Too many of these cars are modified with over the top mods and destroyed.

Thanks! The car was a 2 owner vehicle. An old lad had it for years. He bought it from the dealership here in California and I have the original window sticker from it. I have nearly everything original you can think of. I have the original floor mats, brochure, manual, repair manual, and plates. Quite a bit has been gone through for it to run smoother. All done by the second owner.

Honestly it sounds like you have the perfect FC. It just doesn't get better than that.
