NV 79 SA (early 3/78)

Hey guys! I'm Miguel from Las Vegas here to gain knowledge about 1st gen RX-7's so I can maintain mine in original stock condition for many more years of driving enjoyment.

Woah! 3/78! The earliest VIN I've ever seen posted in 2/78. Got any pics?

My bad, it's a 4/78 SA.

^^Wow, still, 4/78 is very early production. I've never seen white exterior with the two tone brown interior before. Nice!! What do the seats look like under those covers? Plaid by chance or solid burgandy? 58K original miles? No passenger side mirror or door map pockets, so definitely early in the model year!

That's right 58k original miles and plaid seats and the hood prop up rod on the right side. I just need to convert my rear brakes from drum to disc so I can have a good solid car.

Any pics of the seats? Mine's bone stock with 42K miles, Sonic Bronze with plaid interior as well! Mine's 9/78 build date. I've seen other 9/78 cars without the early production quirks, so I've gotta believe Sept to October of '78 was the transition time to dual mirrors and other later U.S. spec features.

Whoa! Look at the shine on that paint, is that original? Don't have any pics of the seats, but they look exactly like yours, except the driver's side bolster is wore out and torn.

Yea, it's all original. The clear coat has some burn through on the roof/sunroof as well as the rear hatch deck, but overall, the paint is decent for "original." I only thought the bronze plaid seats with two tone interior was available in Sonic Bronze, but your car proves that theory incorrect. Glad you posted up!! Think about taking yours out to Sevenstock XIX on October 1!

Sevenstock is in Cali. Might be a stretch unless your car is sorted. Welcome to the forums. You've found the right place to learn about your early SA. She looks pretty well preserved, with minor wear and tear from the sun/heat, common to the SW.

Thanks. It's pretty well sorted, I use it as a semi daily, it can make the drive. I just looked up Sevenstock it's going to be at AAA Speedway in Fontana.

Yes, 10/1. Hotel info will be up in a month or so. You just show up the day of the event and pay $20 to get in. No pre-registration required. Usually get around 600 rotary cars that show. Great event if you're interested in Rotary Power!
