wtf

ummm, I just went to the crutchfield website 'cause I was seeing what I could buy , as far as a sound system goes, for my FD when I get one, and the only speaker location they let you select is the front doors! Are there really only speakers in the front doors or is crutchfield on crack?

depends on what model and options you have on your FD, on where there are (and if there are) other speakers.

For example: Do you have that lame Bose system using up half your trunk?

actually, I'm not too interested in the bose system considering I'm going to be completely replacing the enitire sound system anyways. What can I say, I'm an Audiophile! I just wanted to know if I will need to make custom enclosures for some rear channel speakers. Oh, and I don't have an FD yet, but when I start my search in earnest I will be looking for one that has whatever audio system has the best upgrade ability. did that sentence make sense?

hmm well in the r1 and i believe in the base, there are rear speakers but if you buy a touring, there always is a way to install the kit from the r1 and base. I am sure there is a lot of guys here that have parted their car apart for racing that will be interested in getting rid of the thing for cheap.

In the touring model, there are little holes to place things instead of the speaker in the other two model. (like a glove box)

check out my page for a custom system

i don't really recommend an FD for someone who wants to do a sound car because there is not enough space to place speakers and the front ones are realy badly placed, the sound is really not too good.

I have been able to put 2 12" but i don't think you can put more than that.

I gotta agree with Puma, the FC is a better car for sound, much easier to place woofers, and alternative speaker locations. And more room.

The FD has some other sound issues as well. It is much better suited for keeping the system basicly the same as the stock system and upgrading the head and speakers. You'll spend a ton of money making an FD sound good.

dont worry, I'm not going to be doing a car totally for sound. What a miserable fate to befall an FD! its really going to be more of a speed car. But I, being a musician, need my tunes and I need them to sound good! I wont be going overboard on the system, don't want TOO much extra weight. Thnx for the info everybody, its been really helpful.

oh damn, puma! Thats a really sweet looking system. I probably wont even end up doing as much as that! I was only thinking of like, 1 10" or 12" sub and 2 amps. What do you think of those eclipse subs? I have eclipse speakers in my current car ( a saturn... blah) and they kick soooo much ***, but I wasn't sure about the subs. Are they relatively good? I'm just asking because I've seen mixed reviews. Some people say they are too boomy or something. I dunno, I've never actually heard them. Just asking your opinion. THanx!

oh well i don't know, i haven't tried any other kind yet except for a cheap combo of alpine vr10.

i believe the quality of the installation is much more important than the quality of the sub. Since my installation isn't perfect, i am pretty sure i am not even close to what the sound of the speaker should be.
