Question Where or How to Fix FD OEM CD player?

Greetings Rotorheads. My 94 FD OEM Bose (Panasonic?) CD player will not eject CDs. Where can I have it repaired or how can I fix it myself? carstereohelp.com will no longer repair them (???).

You can repair it by taking it out and throwing it away. the OEM cd player is pretty junky. If your funds are permitting, i'd get another cd deck.

Exactly. Get an aftermarket CD player or find someone who did and buy their OEM CD player. You'd spend just as much fixing it, probably.

Great, any recommendations that will fit and match the sound characteristics of the BOSE OEM sound system??? I hate those ugly, hard to use new CD players that are all flash and tiny buttons. I want to drive my FD, not mess with the music. All I need are the basics - like what the original has....

I don't change mine even though it sucks is because of the amber scheme.

Best bet is to find a good used one - shouldn't be too terribly hard to find.

For non-Bose people, you can actually get a head unit from pretty much any '90s Mazda. I installed a head unit from a '97 626 in a customer's '93 base - it literally plugs right in and clips in just like the stock unit. Only drawback was the green illumination, but it's simple and stock-looking, and only ran like $20 on Ebay.

I have also seen people use the double-din head units from I think the Protege - they have CD and tape. The later RX-7 in Japan came with it. I dunno what color illumination it is, though, but it is a really good looking stock head unit.

From the big list back in 2000.

Panasonic OEM Car Audio Service

Cypress CA 90630

Phone: (714) 373-7500
FAX: (714) 373-7049

They charge $50 for diagnosis which is applicable towards the repair bill.
Two years ago the total cost for replacing the CD mechanical assembly was
$148 including tax and shipping.

Namakachi CD-35Z is simple and has amber backlighting. Can be found on eBay usually for $100 or so.
