Twin Round Pop Ups!?

Hi all, another FD from across the pond in England!

Anyway, I've been looking into getting some twin round sleepy lights made for the FD, I really like them, so I want some, and think they improve the look of the FD!!
They would be very similar to the Knight Sports ones, which are so hard to get hold of.
Do let me know if anyone might be interested!

I'd have to investigate the lights for America, as you drive on the wrong side so will look into that!

It's more difficult than it looks. You have to modify the control arms or motor to change the height of the popups and then pretty much custom make the lights and the shroud. If you made a kit that uses true HIDs with proper cutoff for the lows and whatever for the highs, you'd sell a bunch of these.

I'm not a fan but to each their own. I do, however, give props to those trying new things even when they're retarded hard like that for something that seems so simple.

Thumbs up, fellow RX modders!

Looks good, but I'm talking about basing it on the Knight Sports framework, which means no alterations to the motor, or arm will be required, as the size and shape of the frame determines the height of the lights.

I'm hoping the guy will have the framework tomorrow, so will post some pics to better explain!

I thought the KS kit didn't popup as high as the stockers. How is this accomplished? In any event, you'll sell a lot of these puppies if quality made.

Just adjusted motors, there is a "how to" thread on how to modify the stock lights height somewhere.

@ OP, the Knightsports lights leave little space for a HID & projector install, It would be pretty tight fitting 4 decent projectors in there.

So you modify the motors? I've seen this done and it's as big a pain as just adjusting the arms.

As for fitting decent projectors in the kit, you only need two projectors, one for each HID low beam. It's irrelevant though as the KS can fit in two 90mm units, which opens up lots of options.

Evidently, although I have not done this myself (My kit was a genuine Knightsports kit, therefore didn't need modification)

I was referring to depth rather than width - From what I've seen, they take up more space than is available (Using the Knightsports frame), although I could be wrong there.

It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Regarding the frames, does the height stay the same or does it somehow get lower that the stock popups?

That's what she said Seriously though, the 90mm Hellas are not very deep and I think they would fit no problem.

I wonder how they would mount.

I have the KS kit but the lighting SUCKS.

Lots of compliments on the looks, but I need better lighting.

The Hellas have mounting plates and are fully adjustable so they would be a good option for the OP. Let's see what he comes up with. Here are the units I recommend. For the lows:

And for the highs:

And the mounting brackets:

The problem with the KS kit for mounting is that they just have two 'slots' for securing/mounting. The same that you would use for mounting 'fog lights'.

I would love to see the options for mounting those Hellas to the KS headlight kit.

I've posted about those in my "FD Sleepy Eye Conversion" thread. They will definitely get the job done as they use all Hella product. If you go HID, they will set you back about $2,000 though. For that price I want something that updates the car (doesn't popup as high).

Should have something to show you guys end of next week, I've gone to another blacksmith as the other kept messing me about.
I've got the light shrouds made up, out of Fibreglass.
These will be a straight swap, and much more sleepy..... I get quite a shock when I go in a standard pop up car, they look awful! haha

I know how you feel, once you've gone "sleepy" then the standard popups are like a hugh brick.

Now make this happen Mr. Charlie!

Hi Guys!
An update!!
Well have got one side done, pictures attached, the blacksmith is off on holiday tomorrow, but will be taking the lights to him a week monday, so we can get them fitted, and into the car!

Now, for the lights, I'm using two lamps with H4 bulbs, which will give four bulbs produing dipped, and main beam...rather than the original Knightsports, which used one light each side for dipped, and one for high.....only one light working at a time!

Interesting. So these will be halogen and you'll have all four on for the low beams? And then all four for high beams? That would be different and plenty bright I would think.
