Question Trying to figure out what sub to get for my car....

I have a 00 Audi S4 and I get a big discount through kicker... I'm not sure how much power the L7/L5 series puts out...

I'm looking to either pick...
1 12" L7 w/ a 650w amp pushing it
2 12" L7's w/ a 1200w amp pushing it (Custom box ugh)
2 12"/10" L5's w/ a 650w amp pushing them
1 12"/10" L5 w/ a ~650w amp

I know the 2 10" truck box set side by side behind the rear seats facing forward will fit... or one big 12" in a bandpass... that would be either the L7 or L5 series... anyexperience w/ either sub would be appreciated...

Cost would be:
12" in bandpass L7 : 150 shipped (Retail 599)
10" L7 in truck boxes 120 each (Retail 479 each)
12" L5 bandpass 120 (Retail 479)
10" L5 in truck boxes 90 (retail 379)

Amp:
Kx1200 (1200w) 240 (retail 999)
Kx600 (600w) 150 (retail 599)

So waddayathink?

Thanks

Personally, kicker is some of the worst looking speakers, im not for the square design. On the other side they put out some serious spl numbers. They came out with a new subwoofer, its callled the solo x, 5000wrms......that is a **** load of power. Anyways, they are just not "High End" products, they are in the same league as say kenwood. They are good, but if you are really into audio than you will be dissappointed. If you are looking to get huge spl numbers the solo x and the l7s and the way to go. They really do hit hard, my friend has 2 12" l7's in an volvo, but in sq their is not much to be desired for. If those prices are including the subs, than thats one hell of a deal. For a little bit more money, i would looking into adire, resonant( my personal fav), avalanche, and for really high end sq subs look into focals or rainbows. Personally, I am a huge audiophile, I sold my a/d/s components for rainbow components which are handmade in germany for $600, to me, I prefer a system with more sq than spl, spl is good for competitions but driving around town can get old real quick when you cant hear your mids and highs because your lows are to loud. Ask any true audiophile and kicker will never be a sq sub. They do make some really good amps, and their thd ratings are pretty good, for those prices I would jump on those amps. I would like go a different route for subs.

I have not been a big fan of kickers, but the idea behind there squar designe is for more air space movement to be used. If I had to pick I would go with a JL or boston acustic ones.

my other options would be to go w/ infinity kappa perfects or any infinity brand sub, I also get a hookup on pioneers but thats what I have now and they're a bit whimpy. I don't really want something too crazy just enough to feel a good bump when needbe.
Thanks for the feedback. The looks don't really bug me too much since they will be facing into the back seats just the amp will be exposed.
Thanks,
Ryker

Oh and I get a similar hook on the solo x series... my audio guy said they are pretty ridiculously loud. The only advantage I could see with those is you can replace the blown sub for less than $100 bucks... If I did that I'd def. have to go w/ 1 12" and pick up a replacement part for it.

Specs for the Solo -x
Model S18X S12X S10X
Size (IN., CM) 18, 45.7 12, 30.5 10, 25.4
Impedance (OHMS) 1 or 2ohm DVC 1 or 2ohm DVC 1 or 2ohm DVC
Max Rec Amplifier Power
(WATTS PEAK)* 10000 5000 5000
Max Rec Amplifier Power
(WATTS RMS)* 5000 2500 2500
Sensitivity (dB 1W/1M) 89.7 87.7 85.7
Frequency Response (HZ) 18-100 20-100 24-100
Mounting Depth (IN., CM)11-3/8, 28.9 8-9/16, 21.7 8-3/8, 21.2
Mounting Cutout, Square
(IN., CM) 16-11/16, 42.4 11-1/4, 28.6 9-3/4, 24.7

Prices on those...
18" 390 (retail $1599 *cough* markup *cough*)
12" 220 1399
10" 200 1299

So that would be 240 (1200w amp)+ 220 12"

Problem is they don't sell a box for those subs so I'd have to make one. it would probably be a bit overkill too

I know it wasn't listed as one of your options, but for the money ($150 or so), I don't think you can beat Alpine Type R's, S's or E's. Good stuff, real cheap, sounds great.

well are you going for Spl or SQ ?

Also if space is your problem then go for the sealed design, why not 1x15" L7 with 1200Wrms driving it ?

hell if you get a discount with kicker stuff Id use it

So the kicker L5 will be enough... dear god I heard one today and it shook me at about 10 ft w/ 6-700w running to it... that will be enough for me... I'll have to get alot of dynomat. Also I need to get rid of those crappy bose subs in the back of my car... one of them keeps hitting the grill making it rattle. Prob. will just leave the spots open on the back deck and fire the 12" through it
Good stuff.... I'll take a vid when I get her in.
thanks guys,
Ryker

Exclamation Kicker ? Dont do it man... go with Infinity instead

I dont recommend Kicker either... but i do recommend getting some Infinity Kappa Series 100.3 se 10" Subwoofers.. they are going for about $90.00 on eaby with shipping included.. I have this box setup on both my FC & FD and it works great... you can mount the Amp right up on top.. check out this pic

Lemme guess you work for Circuit City? I personnaly am going with one 15" L7 @ 1 ohm with the SX1250.1 amp goin to it in a plain ol' MDF box for now, but fiberglassing my own box this summer when I get time. This should rock pretty hard and yea it isn't the best **** but hell a $1750 system for 450 shipped... cant beat that. I also thought about just going all out with the Solo X series but don't feel like adding a battery or getting a bigger amp for the KX2500.1
