Textured plastic spray?

This may belong in the other automotive section, but anyway...

I have a 1970 Challenger that I'm trying to restore (cosmetically at least) by the end of the week for a car show and the plactic door thingeys are really crumbling on the coating. Its a textured coating that makes it look sort of bumpy, but its all coming off. I was thinking I could just scrape it off and respray it without texture because the plastic under the cover is still in great condition, but i decided that I would like to keep that textured look.

Can I just line it with vinyl, get some spray texture stuff (like that stuff you spray on your ceiling), or should I just repaint it smooth?

Are their any spray texture stuff in a can?

I believe the company you are talking about is called sem and the product is called SEM Texture Coating, and the product number is 39853 and its Aerosol and costs $11.89. It is number 70 here

Eastwood also carries SEM and house brand restoration paints. Their catalog may have something else that is closer to what you want.

What are "the plastic door thingeys" ? Can you post a picture? It's been a long time since I've seen a Challenger in person.

JSpecRZ used SEM's on his console project. You can see how it came out here.

Check your yellow pages for automotive paint suppliers (the kind that supplies body shops/men/etc). Of the few suppliers I've been to locally, all carry SEM products.

You can get a textured spray paint from Home Depot. It's got fine texture that makes the plastic look more expensive.

I've used the SEM texture stuff. It's clear, so you'll need to use their plastic paint too.

Also get some SEM plastic prep so it goes on nice, and make sure you're doing it with the humidity where it should be.
