How tall can you go? and how deep is the sub?
if space permits you could do a horn loaded enclosure. That would be a sealed box with the sub firing down, about 3 inches off the floor...If you got the height that is.

Can you say HUMONGOUS???
well you first off you need to find out specs for the sub to see what type of enclosure space you need then you might wanna try doing a partial fiber glass/mdf box to achieve the proper airspace

i have a 12w6 jl audio hitting 136.6 dbA on four hundred watts in my first gen, but you can see the sub. Mike has a good idea, but common sense will tell a thief what that little black box in your window is, regardless of sub showing.
I have a design that i came up with for a slot port wedge 2 box, with both sub and port hitting the glass. sub facing down in this situation will sound like crap, especially since the back pressure will be coming off of the spare! This is a hatchback!
The box is only one cubic foot, 1.4 tbv, not even 20 inches wide and 15 tall. email me for plans. aninstaller@hotmail.com
p.s. lumar platinum tint at 20 percent is absolutely perfect for hiding this, day or night.

i know that even if i have a box in my boot with or with out a sub showing, people would think it is a sub.
but what i want to do is build a parcel shelf over the whole back, thats why i am tring to build a very low box. so the whole boot from the top of the back seats to the bottom of the rear window will be a shelf with the box under it..

here's the options as i see it...
a) you can get a standard enclosed box or one that has your sub angled. this is just to save space. if your sub is black then it should be well disguised. if all else fails, throw a towel over it. works with my friend's amp. nobody's jacked it yet...
b) get the ported box without plexiglass so no one can see your sub. you can try disguising it as a file box or something if you're really good with designs :p

What year is your car? I am not too familiar with 3rd gen's, but what I did on my 83 and again on my 87 was to take out the storage bin, build a false floor making the entire hatch area about 3 1'2-4 inches higher, then mounted subs right behind the seats... Works awesome, is very stealth.

Yeah just make a box, with the sub firing towards the floor. Try to get the sub about 1/3 the drivers diamter from the floor. This works pretty good.. This is what Im refering to as a horn loaded enclosure. Maybe you guys are thinking of a 'transmission line' enclosure?
