Speaker Sizes for Non-bose FD?

I am getting some aftermarket speakers for my FD and was wondering what the speaker sizes were.

Also any recomendations on brands would be helpful.

Thanks

6.5" inch speakers drop right in in the front, as long as they aren't too deep (very high quality speakers tend to have deeper baskets and/or very large magnets). 6x8 speakers drop right in for the rears.

As far as brands go, that's a personal choice. Go to a good car audio store and listen to several sets. Watch out for foam surrounds, which are pretty bad design for a car audio speaker (deterioration due to weather).

Rynberg, so what's the "stock" size for the front & rear speakers, cuz I was interested in a higher end speakers, and I heard they got a pretty large magnet...

Those ARE the stock size speakers. You have to worry about the depth of the fronts because too deep of a speaker will interfere with the window rolling down all the way....not good! I'm not sure exactly how deep you can go. Do a search, there are dozens of posts about front speaker replacements, so you should be able to get an idea of what fits.

Hmm... I remember a 6.3" figure for the stock fronts from somewhere.

Regardless, these are *cone* sizes, not necessarily a mounting size. I put in some shallow mount 6.5" JBL coaxials that fit the stock mounting screw holes perfectly (well using one of the provided adaptors.

Hopefully this will alleviate any confusion on why people are reporting different sizes up front.

Compare these two speakers: One is 5.25" and the other is 6.5".

Notice how both have similar mounting holes!

Yea see the reason I thought those weren't the stock sizes is because when you go online to crutchfield or tweeters etc and put in RX7 for your car, the speaker sizes it lists for the front is 5.25, and in the rear 6.5 or 6.8...

The rears are definitely 6x8. Crutchfield lists 5.25" as the fronts to avoid clearance issues. Otherwise, they might have to actually measure the 6.5" for clearance....

Hey Tyler are you sure the rears are 6x8s? Cuz I bought 5x7s and they fit right over the bracket. Even with the 5x7s I could only get 2 screws to align up with the bracket holes.

www.maxcooper.com ? **** i dunno........

I'd just go with 6.5" Front and 5x7" Rears since I just got those installed and they fit with MILD modification to the stock brackets...........

1-do i need that adapter if im running a sony head unit and infinity speakers? or is that for bose?

2-if i use infinity fronts and a sony head unit, will i be able to still have the rear bose section (acoustic wave thing)? or will that be useless after the speaker install?
