Speaker and amplifier suggestions

My car doesn't have the Bose stereo so I would like to upgrade the speakers and add an amplifier.

The car came with a JVC head unit and from what I read in this forum 6" - 6.5" round components fit in the front speaker location with some modification.

What fits in the rear speaker location? 6x9"?

What kind of amplifier would be sufficient for this application? I don't want to overkill.

JVC Head Unit
Pioneer 6" components (F)
Pioneer 6x9" speakers (R)
Amplifier (????W)

Would this system be enough for the quality and crystal clear sound that I'm after? Should I go speakers all around or components all around or half half like I listed above?

Your questions have been answered plenty of times. Do more searching in the future.

Stock Speaker Size
F: 5 1/4
R: 5x7/6x8

6 1/2 can work in the fronts with some modification. You can probably get 6x9's to work in the rear if you made some kind of a bracket on top of the stock bracket.

I would get a different head unit. I'm just not a big fan of JVC products. Everytime I used them in the past they were just poor quality. I would either go with a Alpine or Pioneer head unit.

Components up front would be great. I don't know about the rears though. Purerx7 has components in the rear and he says it sounds amazing. Shop around and do research on some good component systems. I actually removed the rear speakers in my car and am just running the fronts. I am looking for some that have decent lows and good midrange to compensate for the removal of my 5x7's. The 5x7's barely had any midrange though.

For an amplifier. You would need a 4 channel 150 - 300watts amplifier. That would give you plenty of power to work with. I'm not an audio guru but I'm sure about everything except maybe the amplifier.

for the amp. you should get a 800 watts amp. if you going pionoeer speakers, it will sound really good, especially with a amp.

The best was to pick an amp for your speakers is to look at the rms wattage of the speakers and find an amp that also plays at that wattage. Peak wattage means nothing as most systems will never see that. And if they do see peak wattage often for some reason, they will blow up.

I'm guessing that you're in a FD, I'd go with component speakers in the front with a 10in or smaller sub in the back. If you don't want a sub, I'd find some 6in sub drivers or just go with 6x9's if you really want them.

And remember to run all new wires to your speakers for the best sound and if you have the money, replace your insulation in your doors and floor.

Here's an example of matching an amp with speakers. (I'm not advocating these items, just using them as an example...)

Power handling: 60watts rms

power handling: 60watts

Power output: 60watts rms x4 at 4ohms

Thanks for the help guys.

Dmoney: I'm not a fan of JVC either, if I was to buy one I'd pick Pioneer or Alpine but since JVC came with the car, I don't want to spend any money on that at the moment. I thought as long as I buy decent speakers and an amp, the sound quality difference between a Pioneer head unit and JVC one would be minimal.

Jshiz, yes it's for a FD. I'm not into big bass, so I won't get a subwoofer, I don't have any experience with sub drivers either but sounds interesting. So it'll be something like:

A)
JVC Head Unit
Pioneer 6" components (F)
Pioneer 6x9" speakers (R)
Amplifier

- all with matching RMS values

B)
JVC Head Unit
Pioneer 6" components (F)
Sub drivers (R)
Amplifier

I might find a different 6x9 but that set up should sound good. You won't have to worry about blowing any speakers or having any horrible distortions if you turn it all the way up.

What's wrong with those 6x9s? In Pioneer website it's listed as Russia only model, maybe it only sounds good after some vodka Jokes aside it's one of the latest 6x9s by Pioneer and has the basalt fiber material, you know like in their ad "our speakers rock"

But i'm open to suggestions for products from Alpine, Kenwood, Sony etc. cause easier to find.

the model of the brand you are looking at is just as important. Every company makes a cheap or econo line of speakers. If you have access to Alpine components then I would go with them over Pioneer. Thats just my personal preference. I had Alpine Type R components that were worth every penny. Love them. I also like Alpine amps so it would be a good combo. As long as you are powering with an amp the sound is going to be so much better than just powering with your head unit. That is the biggest mistake most people make is buying $400 sets of components and powering with the head unit. Pure craziness. bottom line, I'd go with a set of Alpine or Kicker components. Not a big fan of 6x9's or 5X7's either. I'd just put a set of 5-1/4's in the rear instead to match your fronts.

I would say you would be fine with a standard 2-way 5-1/4. Rear speakers are more for sound fill so I would save a few bucks and just get standard ones. If you ask any audiophile, having components in the front and rear is overkill. A quality set up front is all you really need.
