Finally pulled the rear Bose tubes...now what?

Alright well after my long *** drive from NY to FL, I finally decided that it is time to pull the trunk bose unit from my car. The amp had already gone bad and I had it ghetto-rigged to an aftermarket amp, but then the speakers finally blew. When I was packing the trunk for the road trip I realized I would have had a lot more room without that stupid bose unit.

Well, it's out. GOOD RIDDANCE! Decided to weigh it once I had it out: 23lbs! (unit + rear carpet)

Those Mazda engineers went though hell trying to shed pounds throughout this car but then they throw 23lbs of stereo equipment in the trunk?

Anyway, since I can't use the stock carpet, I'm not sure what I should do.

I remember awhile back someone was making custom-cut trunk carpet. Is that person still around? Is there a website I should check out? Should I call up Ray to see about a non-bose OEM trunk carpet piece?

Right now I'm cruising around with a bare trunk (no carpet, no spare (don't have one), etc. I'm OK with that, but it would be nice to have a full-sized piece of carpet.

Cheers!

There is this material that you can pick up in Home Depot. It is like a solid cardboard. Some car door panels are made out of this stuff (I know my FB those). Any ways, you can get some of that, cut it to the shape of the hatch area and cover it in carpet of your choice.

I was looking for rear trunk carpet awhile back & noticed the Summer Sale that Malloy Mazda was having. They had rear carpet listed at a killer price. Called them up & come to find out, was an error. Was told that the rear non-Bose carpet was no longer available anymore. Eek! Had to do a WTB in the classifieds. Ended up costing me 125 bucks but was worth it to me. The carpet is nice & I don`t have the Bose system in the car anymore & more room in the back.

Good luck!

Get R1 front door and rear brackets and upgrade the front speakers to 6.5 alpines with separate tweeters and get 2 way alpines 6.5 in the rears and that's all you need bro. forget the amps and sub boxes you don't need it for the small *** FD cockpit.

believe it or not i only have the two door speakers on my FD because i have been too cheap to buy the rears and is sounds so good just with the fronts . I did pay $150 speakers tho.

I did the Alpine 6.5" in the doors with the separate tweeter also. Put the tweeters up high in the door panels & made a custom cloth grill for each. Looks factory. Also did 5.25" speakers in the little pockets behind the seats & made grill clothed covers for them as well. For the finishing touch, built a fiberglassed enclosure in one of the storage bins behind the drivers seat & put an 8" sub in it. Sounds decent & all of it is well hidden from those prying eyes that occasionally look over the car while I am not around.
