So I finally sprayed the primers on my widebody project

And fucked up. There's a couple spots Im gonna have to sand back down and build up again. Oh well. I never expected it to be perfect the first time Ive done this.

And before anyone says anything, thats primer, not the real color. I dont know why its yellow. Thats just the way it is.

Oh, and those arent waves in the bodywork. Just me laying down a subpar spray pattern. Im getting better as I go. Im gonna have to practice a lot more before I try laying down the color coat.

You should take the time to mask the parts of the car that does not need primer, i.e. your brakes. But way to go on trying it yourself (this is a compliment, no sarcasm).

Im gonna tear the suspension apart and clean it up and repaint the brakes later on, so Im not really worried about getting overspray on them.

There's a 200watt bulb right above the car. And I have a shop light. I try to open the garage when possible to get some natural light, but the recent mass amounts of rain kinda put a wrench in my gears. Im just trying to keep the garage climate controled right now.

I'd get a couple of those halogen lights that stand up on adjustable poles. I think they are a few hundred watts each and you can get two per stand. Trust me, a few of those is better than daylight

will you not have to worry about the molding cracking with body flex.excuse my ignorance I'm new to body work and I'm looking into a wide body for myself most people tell me that molding body peices that are molded will crack when molded. none the less I'm sure the car will come out looking bad ***

Overspray gets on EVERYTHING.

Ive just sprayed my bonnet (first time sprayer here too) now my entire garage is RED. Alot of it is dust, but its EVERYWHERE.

Make sure you spend alot of time on preparation. If you have questions feel free to PM me or post here and ill tell you what i learned doing my bonnet.

How long did it take you to strip the car? as an estimate. I plan to respray the whole of my car and would like some guide information.

It took me about 3 solid days of work to get the car down to bare metal. I had to go through 3 paint jobs though. Ive put over 100 hours into it and Im finally starting to see signs of it. Most of my effort has been in those flares though.

wptrx7 - Im removing all the suspension parts and either cleaning them up or painting them. Think of this as a total restoration for my car. Nothing and i mean NOTHING is getting left untouched.

93FD3S - have I met you? Your car doesnt look familiar. I thought I knew most of the FD owners in town. We used to have our own meets, but a lot of the FD owners either broke, sold, or wrecked their cars, and its kinda fallen apart. I guess I cant really complain, because Im one of those who cant really show up in an RX7. Jens, chad, marcello, mike, and kyle are the only ones I know of that still drive theirs and will attend meets. Well, chad rarely drives his. I used to hit up biffs but havent been out in over half a year. Its too bad bennigans isnt around anymore. That was close. And it was us RX7 guys that started it. Then the ricers invaded and brought the cops with them.

Yeah actually they aren't even chromed, I wrapped them in aluminum foil for the chrome effect. I guess it worked..!!!

Mr3plus1...I must of met you before. Its been awhile since I've actually seen everyone together. I think the last time was at Chesters Burgers on 410 by Broadway. Hopefully I can make it out to Biffs this Friday, since we are finally getting better weather now. Anyone planning on going?
