Vented bonnet pics - just fitted, wow!

Guys,

Just fitted a new vented bonnet. Its a re-amemiya AD9 copy in FRP (i think, doesnt seem to be stamped anywhere - i think its made by viz?) and all i can say is WOW to the effect it has!

My engine bay is as follows...

The intercooler ducting collects the air similar to the way the standard ducting does, but the inlet protrudes further down into the space behind the bumper in direct airflow in order to get a bit more air in.

Before this bonnet i was seeing approx 45 degree intake temps on my PFC when cruising on the motorway. I did see as high as 75 when driving the car hard at lowish speeds.

Now i have the bonnet fitted, my intake temps are a consistent 32 degrees more or less, and ive yet to get them above 42.

Im so pleased with the bonnet! I need to modify the stock bonnet hinges a bit to get it to meet the nose of the car properly, and also need to attatch the rain trays and get it sprayed red. But after this is done i can't wait to see it, or drive it. Should all be done ready for the nurburgring in June! Wohoo!

Heres some more pics...

I LOVE THIS!

shame the rain trays wll cover it up!

For the first time after going for a drive i got out of the car, popped the bonnet and i could actually comfortably touch the UIM, suspension turrets, intercooler etc. Its actually just pleasantly warm. Before, alot of that stuff would burn me!

Thumbs up for vented bonnets, one of my favourite mods so far.

VIS doesn't make that, chances are that is a Pre-Auto copy or perhaps an old Chuck RE copy.

chaser???

I bought the bonnet from Ebay, second hand. The advert said it was a viz copy im sure?

In any case yes, the gaps really arent that bad. One side of the hinges is not currently fixed down properly so it does not line up with the wing properly, the other side is more or less perfect, and the whole thing needs to come forward maybe 1.5cm and it will fit great!

great lookin bonnet. (Same one i've got; but mines a CF Rotary Extreme 'N1' hood)

do you have issues shutting your hood with the rain guards in? my strut tower bar rubs the guards when they're in; so i only put them on when she's parked, in case it rains.

Very glad to hear you're getting it painted, they look great painted. And you only need the rain trays if it's raining I'd leave them off until they're needed, keep them in the hatch or something.

Very jealous you're able to drive her on the Ring! Have fun, post pics!

That is freakin awesome. I love how clean the stock hood looks, but everything under the hood feels so damn hot.

I used to have the mazdaspeed replica hood. I can't say that I noticed a huge difference when moving-maybe 1 degree C, but it had a huge positive impact on the amount of time it took to cool down after I parked it. Seemed to cool down a lot quicker.

They are 57s pro's, The 57s are 5 spoke, 57s pro are 7.

I dont actually have the rain trays yet so not sure what the impact is on hood clearance.

I bought the chaser hood and had serious fitment problems, I could fit my hand inbetween the front bumper and hood. Just awaiting my garage s hood instead.

wow, you still haven't got your hood yet? Who did you order it from? I ordered mine here
www.cannonball-r.com, It only took about a couple of months to get it.

now all I gotta do is save up and get it fitted and painted

Anyway, Bobfish please post pics of your hood once it's painted. I was always a big fan of that hood. Nice wheels BTW!

hope this works!

the bonnet is a lighter red than the wings, but im not worried. After the nurburgring i plan to spray the rest of the car anyway so after that itll all match.

The finish is ok, i made some mistakes that ill learn from but thats what experience is all about at the end of the day. Nothing you can blatantly see on the car from more than a foot away from the surface.
