I usually keep my radar off with the remote in my hand until I can visibly see a vehicle moving at a high rate of speed, at which point I'll turn it on. It's funny to see people suddenly pick up the signal and slam on their brakes, and their front bumper almost touches the ground. It's too late at that point, though.

The reason I recommend that system is the fact that we know all radar detectors are detectable to some degree, correct? Even the V1. So here's my reasoning. Say you get pulled over for speeding. If its illegal to have a radar detector, what do you have to do? You have to take it off your windshield, hide it, and hope its not looked for, since you probably don't have time to hide it well. So as you're doing this, the cop is right behind you, staring into the back window of your car. So he could see you take it off, then you're having to explain what you were doing (which seeing someone fumble around their car frantically after being pulled over would scare most cops and cause other unwanted problems). The K40 is completely hidden other than the two LEDs, which look relatively normal. The control is hidden, and can be said to control the alarm or something along those lines. To find the actual sensors, he's actually going to have to look in the front grill or behind the bumper, as well as behind. The chance of him seeing a small black box and knowing its a radar detector is probably slim. How many would actually look there in the first place? So they literally have to tear the car apart to figure it out, which in most states, I believe, requires special circumstances greater than probable cause (Depends on the state).

So my point is, the radar detector is already hidden, so you don't have to hide it yourself. If you're going to get a radar detector, regardless of the legality, why would you get one that has to sit on your windshield? Seems to me like that would be pretty obvious, versus the K40.

Blake

I'm mainly referring to the part of hiding it
depending on your state laws if you have dark enough tint
but not illegal they cant see it

but anyways i think its great that this is out and all except for the fact of children i mean im 16 have my license and well i know what its like to pay for my stuff

ok my parents bought my first car honda civic
put about 500 in it of theres (christmas and bday)
then about 1500 of saved $
thats it
they promised me that because both of them got that even though there families weren't very wealthy
so i got that but ive been working for the past two years
i pay for my gas my insurance (sucks to be young too/the cars) I have bought my last two cars out of my own pocket parts food and clothes and spending money unless its a neccessity or sometimes school funds

one took two paychecks this past summer to pay off
i work at an ingles grocery store
making barely over minimum wage i took everyones ours that asked
one day worked 12 1/2 hours
made 250 each week after taxes worked 40 hours+ a week

car cost 500

doesnt run but its for parts

the next car
was Bad83's old SA
2200 of my money
mean car actually have it at school now prepin for paint
in ACR 2 (auto collision repair)
have so far had to spend about 150 in parts for it that are NEEDED and not near done spent 120 yesterday getting a new cluster(reset the odometer and gotta get it notorized and all the legal paperwork) new pillar covers interior and exterior the part where the windshield washer sprayer nd one wiper is in
a few light covers wiper arm cover ummm a new set of covers for the holes in the arm rest and door panel on the interior

and thats not near all
that was a good deal though
but anyways so i have that plus around 600 in bodywork including the schools discount and all (plus my teachers discount for winnin teacher of the year for some acr trainin ****) so i am getting the whole car primed painted and cleared by top of the line ppg paint (paintin it K8) body filler etc is free its bought by the school for winnin **** at competitions

so i have it semi easy for that but anyways back to the point
I am 16 have 3 cars PAY FOR THEM ALL MYSELF NOW, and after my first ticket
speeding from school to work on a new empty 4 lane road plus a huge emergency lane (haha sams seen it did dougnuts on a road to show the cars power the break in doughnut) but anyways huge road it was a 55 i was doin 80-85mph on it
school wasn't out for the high school but RD Anderson (sorta like a vocational school) got out at 3 rather than 3:25 or 3:30 so empty basically

guy was nice told him i was rushin to get to work at 4 my boss bitched for me havin bodyfiller all over and all on me and bein dusty afterwards
so i had to shower and it takes 15 to get home then 20 from there speeding or if no traffic so i explained that and that the road i have to take to get to work has two schools on it and another near so i have busses slow soccer moms etc so 30 to get there usually

so 15+30 that leaves 15 to get ready
which sucks when they make us have our clothes freshly ironed
so that takes time and all

and he said why do you work and all told him i depend on it
not my parents they figure i can drive i can get a job same responsibility thing involved
he said he could relate and actually had the same thing as a kid and that i had a nice car and all and i told him i worked hard and appreciated it (and figure this
had illegal tint haha under 30 or 31% now in SC is illegals what the shop said
mines 15% haha and exhaust with no silencer cat or nothin)
knocked easily a 4-6 point ticket to 1 point so insurance and a 414 ticket to an 81

so it helped he could relate
but its all about location not really age

i have bosses that i work with that trust me more than a book keeper
i've worked there 8 months now and well i have other cashiers that have been there years and same with the book keepers

bad part is they expect me to work while others sit
and im raisin hell about it tomorrow cause i have 8-4 =x sucks

sorry i wrote a book didn't mean to
just didn't really realize it
wrote parts throughout the night cause some ****

O yeah i forgot all about you being a cop. How is it??

There are times where i wish i was a cop SOLEY so i patrol the highways lol. I get soo amped up when i see someone fly by, then i see the cop pull out of his spot and hit the lights. Im like YES!!!!!! Go get em boyyyyy!!! hahah

But on another note, i speed alot, not like top speed but most of the time im always over the speed limit, its just a habit i recently picked up, i dont know why. Im not saying my V1 will save me all the time but if it doesnt show any signal, im hauling ***. If it picks up a weak signal, i wont even chance it.

There are even times where i see cops patrol and when i pass them, they arent even looking at the cars, they are like reading their laptops or doing something else.

I dont know what devices you have to get your attention when your gun picks up a high rate of speed but if you WERE trying to fool speeders by keeping it off at times, you should at least keep your eye on the highway.

It's awesome, best job in the world so far, but a ridiculous amount of paperwork.

And a lot of people don't realize it, but we don't exactly have a lot of downtime(depending who you work for, I guess). A lot of times I'll see someone fly by and slam on their brakes, but I'm already on my way to a domestic or some other problem, so I don't even turn around. Even for a vehicle lockout I won't detour. I'm more of a "give back to the public" kind of guy; I know what it's like to sit for 20 minutes waiting for a cop to show up and unlock my door, so I'm not gonna be that guy to other people. I usually just hit my brakes and scare people a little bit. Or make them drive like ******** to try and "get away from me", but idk either way haha

Maddslow, What do you do when you get jammed? Or if your equipment fails to react when those bumpers go down? Or do these things ever happen?
Which jammers work the best?

Just questions I've always wanted to ask an Officer.
By the way, I don't speed much, 0-60 stuff when no cars are around. curvey roads and such.

The thing is, we're not "supposed" to rely on our radar. We're all qualified as experts in estimating speed; we had to complete a course that required us to observe 60 speeds, and we had to estimate within 5mph or we fail the course. If my radar isn't picking anything up from your vehicle, I can tell you're using a jammer, and that might cause me to pull you over when I hadn't originally planned to.

Nice nice. My ex-next door neighbor became a cop like 3 years ago. He works the night shift though which i feel sorry for him. It was pretty bad in my old town.

Yeah there was a couple of times i flew by a cop when he was at a red light and he didnt move. I guess it all depends on the situation and/or cop?

Another thing i have a habit with is that i pace cops or try to run with them lol.

Like my friend, if he's driving the limit, say 30 and a cop pulls behind him, just cruising. My friend will completely PANIC to **** and slow down to like 15. Im like dude what are you doing? He's like nah nah nah i dont like this, why is he following me? Im gonna go slow so he cant pull me over for speeding. (hes the type of person who talks fast ALL the time so to listen to him panic, at the same time ramble about this was soo annoying). lol

I just drive normal when a cop is following me. If theres a 2 lane road and he decides to pass me, i guess to go faster cause maybe im still slow, ill follow him and match his speed lol. He doesnt have his lights on so he's not going anywhere but i like to pretend im like a "hardcore guy" following the cop while people are going slow acting all innocent.

I hate people who do that. Go slower than normal when a cop is on the road. Just drive regularly. lol

Yeah, your best bet is to drive regularly. If someone is driving 15 under, I'm going to pull them over for multiple reasons. And if I'm doing the speed limit and somebody passes me, I take it as a personal insult to myself and my department.

lol yeah thing is that my friend will make it obvious that he sees the cop and goes slower than the limit. Im like dude thats drawing his attention.

But nah i never pass the cop, i know i can get pulled over for that because for one, cops NEVER go the speed limit, well here they dont. So for me to pass him, im speeding myself.

Im just saying if the limit is 25 and he's going like 35, ill stay with him, usually like 2 cars behind him or if its a 2 lane road, ill keep my front bumper by his rear bumper like. I dont know why i do it but i do lol
