Thumbs up

WOW. Congrats man, those parts look bad ***. I wish I would have waited to have you carbon fiber my interior, but decided to go the paint route---like you said, those tight bends are almost impossible to do. Still think it looks better than my paint job will though.

hey.. that looks like my interior! hum... I must say he did a good job. However, I did spend some time ... (3-4 hours) sanding and filing to make the parts fit... I'll take a pic of it mounted and post it soon.

pics of them installed

Hey guys,

Firstly, as promised, here are the pics of them installed. Sorry for some of the blurry pics. I was trying to get some close up shots but the camera decided otherwise.

SECONDLY, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you're going to get this done to your peices, DON'T EXPECT A PERFECT FIT! DO EXPECT, to sand, to file, to gently bend and force some parts back together. AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS, beat the **** outta the part and hope that it knows who's the boss. ( As you can imagine, I was pretty stressed at the end...I spend close to 3 hours sanding/filing and 2 hours trying to put everything back together. AND ON TOP OF THAT, I worked under the scortching hot sun...)

Thirdly, if I may, I'd like to point out where I had problems.

On all the pics, the circled parts had blobs of dried clear coat which I had to file away. Be careful when filing or sanding here because if you happen to slip, you'll chicken-scratch that **** up. TRUST ME, I did it to my driver side door and it ain't pretty. Also, some clear coat dried in the... for a lack of a better word, I'll call them "wells" or lips, (refer to pic 6) which caused problems for me to fit the parts in.

Notice on pic 7, that the two pieces don't fit perfectly, but very close-least that was the best I can get them to fit. Pic 8, I had to file away so that the button actually pops out because before, it was too small. Note that on the AC panels and etc, you don't have that nice smooth/tapered look anymore--that is unless you sand it down, but I was too tired for the day to do anymore sanding.

Hum... I think that's it. Mark, I hope you don't take it the wrong way. I like what you did, and I don't want you to think that I'm dissin' your work by me pointing out where I had problems. anyways, hope this helped. WHEW...

If anyone's interested in some inside tips in taking off the door panels and stuff, let me know and I'd be glad to help.

I don't think anyone can expect it to be a perfect fit. After all, he IS covering a part that perfectly fits with an additional layer of stuff Even before he ever said anything, I was almost sure, that unless he filed away the edges, that some fitment will be needed.

I still think it looks baddass

I wouldnt worry so much about the resin yellowing. Some of my pieces have started to delaminate(**disclaimer**I made these myself - NOT MARK) because i didnt get a good enough bond i guess(i scratched up the plastic surface and used a degreaser before starting so I dont know what went wrong). When this happens it will make your car smell like resin. That is when you need to start worrying. Mark has a lot more experience than me with painting and that kind of work so Im sure you wont have any problems with this stuff. This was also my first cf project while Mark has done many! Again... great job on those pieces. Just givin you a heads up.

macross11,

Thanks for the comments. Any information will help me out on the next set I do. I am defiantly going to have the next person send me all the button / ***** etc so I can do a little more trimming and make everything fit a little better. In your case I had to just trim the panel and hope things fit.

This is precisely why I charge less for the first set, so I could work out some of the bugs so to speak.

rikki,
calm down man I asked him to post his comments. i would rather someone know now what to expect than to do a set and have an unhappy customer. Nothing is perfect I guess

rikki,

I am deeply offended and don't understand why you're insulting me? I do think mark's work is first class and as I said in my post, I do appreciate his work...

But in case there is any confusion, I'M SORRY. I DON'T MEAN TO DUMP ON MARK'S WORK. HE DID A FINE JOB AND THIS IS A WHOLE MISUNDERSTANDING.

Macross11,
No need to apologize.
I think your comments are helpful and not in the least bit offensive.

rikki, that was an ******* move, he did explain in his post that he was satisfied with the cf as a whole but just wanted to let everyone know what to expect. like flybye said you are laying over panels.

Everyone simmer down. Its hard to get everything to fit together right with that extra thickness from the cf and resin.... especially if you dont have all of the accessories for a test fit. It took a lot of time with a dremel for me to get mine right. Man.... after lookin at those pictures again.. you just keep getting better and better. The finish looks flawless.

Wow!!!

I'm floored--Mark, that is absolutely amazing. I haven't been this impressed over any "mod" in a while. If it wasn't for the $450 worth of speeding tickets I've gotten in the last month, I'd be sending you my interior panels right now.

And Ryan, you came off like a huge ******* in that post. You need to think before you open your mouth. Are you a big enough man to apologize?

He means well guys I know him well. He jsut can't admit when he was in the wrong. I know Ryan was just thinking that this guy was trying to be a dick. So Ryan was just defending Mark..

Ryan it's ok to make a mistake form time to time.

He did not take his time and plan carefully IMO. It takes all of 30 seconds to get the door panels of. This guy is offering pointers on how to do it. C'mon man I can say I am sorry about calling you a troll but as for the install I would not put it all on Mkoch1 it looked pretty nice to me I just think that he did not spend to much time in the in stall department. So call me ashole all you want it is just my take on the side of it. So GET OVER IT
Well, I guess that answers my question. I can't say that I'm surprised. Team pfs indeed...
