need help with tweeter placement.
I just got the Kenwood 5 1/4 Excellon spakers with tweeters. yquestion is at what angle would be the best sound rom th tweets. Flush in the dash pointing straight up, on top of the dash strait up, or on top of the dash at a 80 deg angle pointing into the cab, or on top of the dash at about a 20 degree angle pointing into the cab. Or shoul I aim them at thewindow?
Right now I hve them stuck on the dash pointing in at the 80 degree angle and it sounds a HELL of a lot better than it did without them. the 5 1/4's are in the stock front mmounting point. took a bit of creative ust of a abre saw, but everythning sounds nice and happy... but i want the most from my tweets. this s the firt time ive ever messed with them in 27 years.
Ohyea, it an 84 gs if that matters and ihave themin the front corners op of the dash bythe a pillars.

In the competition car audio world there are a couple of general rules as far as tweeter placement, but for your set up its gonna depend on what you really want to do and how much of your high freq hearing is left (most men don't hear past 17Khz after the age of 30).
anyway the basic rules:
1. If the midrange and tweeter are powered off of the same source, they should be within 18 inches of each other and within 30 degrees axis. If you exceed these limits, you will loose clarity and image.
If dedicated power is used per speaker, then the crossover or other devices (like passive or active time alignement devices) can be used to correct for this.
2. If you have any high freq hearing left, avoid placeing the tweets so that they fire/face into the windsheild. The glass tends to resonate at around 3000Hz to 3500Hz (which is a typical 6 and 12db cross over point for many tweeters). If you do place the tweets facing the glass you will loose imaging, as well as cheaper tweeters or crossovers will sound very harsh and less clear. But in the other hand; if you hi freq hearing is shot mounting them facing the glass will make the high freq sound louder (so that could be good as well). Again depends on what you are looking for.

So in an FD the top part of the door trim is a good place- ie directly above the door speakers and pointing straight left and right?
