Unhappy Need help choosing an amp, HELP PLEASE!

Ok I really can't decide on an amp. The amp will only power 1 12" JL Audio sub WS6 4 ohm. I'am only looking to hit around 300 watts. I do not want to get the most powerful amp, I just want quality thump that doesn't rattle everything in my FD. I already had 2 18"s in my other car and I'am done with loud loud systems. I just want some thump in my car. I'am looking at a RF 300s Power punch amp bridged into 1 channel will get me 300 watts for around 200 bucks. Any other opinions or help?

Well its gonna be hard with budget. The JL12W6 is belive is 300w rms so ur gonna want an amp that pushes that. RF would be absolute power, and i dont think that thats within ur price range. since you sont want to rattle ur FD though u can always go with like 200w rms. Pioneer makes good amps, HIfonics have serious raw power and @ 1 ohm but i heard that the guy thats has them built died and his wife now sends them to rice land to get them built and not in AMERICA. So humm ur price range is ur issue on getting a quality amp, but as far as powering it just get as close to 300w rms as possible.

Remember to use 4ga-8ga power wire ur hitting 200+ range.

It'd be a lot better for your sub if you at least over powered it slightly. One of the biggest reasons subs get blown is from the amp clipping. I understand that you probably won't ever push your sub to it's max (or the amp for that matter) but I usually say be safe rather then be sorry with a blown sub. If the RMS of a sub is say 300 watts go for something in the 400 RMS range. At least you can always turn down the gains if the subs are too loud for you and you won't run into clipping issues!
BTW I personally use a JBL 1200.1 and I'm between subs. I'll be going down to 2 10's for sound quality cause rattling everything on my block no longer interests me. It is a good amp and can be had for under $300 on ebay, it's only pitfall is that it has no subsonic filter but since i'll be running a sealed box it won't matter!

Some to look at:
xtant
PPI
Cadence
JL
JBL
RF

Also maybe do a search on sounddomain.com's forum there's usually a forum favorite or two.

It's where the amp gets overloaded so either distorts to astronomical levels, or just stops sending a signal to the sub. Then it might come back online before the speaker actually settles to neutral, which will hurt the coil pretty badly....blowing the speaker. Distortion will also hurt the driver pretty badly since the electical waves are very unstable, causing lots of heat and damage and bad sounds. Most amps provide clipping protection to prevent it from harming itself, but cheap ones obviously don't.

OK, I went with a RF amp because I know it's quality and I have had a good reputation(lack of better word) with them. I got a new non-refurbished out the box POWER 451S amp. It's the newer kind of RF's, I think they had recentrly changed from a rounder amp to one that looks a little more spikey, lol! This amp cost me 210.00 shipped out the door. So that ain't bad.

It has 450 watts RMS x1 bridged @ 4ohm, which is around what I was looking for, don't want to have to push the amp to it's fullest all the time. Thanx guys for your help!
