Thanks Blue TII for the insight!

Does anyone own the Corbeau Forza Sport seats that are FIA approved and have them installed in your FD? Same goes for the new Sparco Evo 2016 ones.

Just trying to figure out which ones will feel the best and what others personal opinions about them are.

after 4-5 years of searching for the perfect replacment seat for the rx7...i finally got some Evo X recaro seats to fit, these are my favorite oem recaros ever!!
after a local miata shop called sbgarage fitted these on their FD and having the chance to sit on them i decided to do the same.

Seats are oem EvoX Recaro seats with 23k miles
rails are veilside FD3s rails but any universal slider with side mounts should work. of course you will have to fab and weld but not too bad.

the clearance is tight!! to be able to fully slide the seat all the way to the back you will need to remove the rear plastic trim piece or trim it a bit. If you sit forward you should be ok.

like all other seats you will most likely have to remove the gas lid plastic trim

here is some pictures just for visual clearence.
im 5'9 185 and these seats are perfectly snug!

i've had recaro spg , spgxl.. bride and my last pair was oem r1 seats... i hated a fixed bucket seat. so i went with recliner

good luck !

I wanna see the view of the seats through the windshield!

I bet it is pretty Porsche-esque.

its a bit gloomy here, ill take one from the front when the weather gets better.

these are from the mitisbishi evo x , dealer cost is $3500 or so each.. street price is about 1k-$1500 for a set...

evo 8-9 seat doesnt clear the door panel.

only thing i had to trim was where the recliner is.

seats are more on the sporty side compared to the evo 8-9 seat.

i went from oem cloth seat -> bride gias (too skinny) -> recaro spg --> too skinny and low --> evo 9 --rubbing on door --> oem r1...

perfect seat for those dont have a girls waist of 30-32 lol.... i'm 35-36 5'9 and it fits me perfectly. its about the same height as your stock seat without the awkward tilting upward position which i hated, it was harsh on my back.

have the ability to adjust the tilt on the seat and moving back and forward i was able to adjust for the perfect seating position.

^First I've ever heard of anyone complain of OEM FD seats..... they're known to be extremely comfortable. Many years ago when my dad was recovering from emergency back surgery for burst discs he said the FD was the only car he could comfortably drive.

don't get me wrong its comfortable but didn't offer the styling and grip the evo ones does for me.

the oem seat is also tilted a little bit upward making the seating non ideal for me.

guess seating position is different for everyone , i like my leg room longer so i can heal toe easy , slike my steering wheel forward so with my arms at 90 bend.

only disappointing thing is i wish the bracket could be even lower so that i can have more headroom for helmet.

Modify it, then. I personally like my seats to scrape the floor in the back.

You could also try tilting the whole seat back a little bit. This gives you more legroom but you might have to sit a little closer or use a steering spacer/deep dish wheel.

You mentioned that you had the SPG XL. How did these fit in the FD please? I want these really bad but cant find any info of anyone fitting them.

Really appreciate if you could give me your feedback.

Thanks!

Bride stradia (and gias I would assume) do fit, but they don't slide back enough to actually fit a tall person. They're a bit lower than stock (maybe an inch?) but it's impossible to drive with them at this position.

It feels like they should go back further, as there's room behind the seat, but the bolsters will hit the door if they go back another inch or two, and the side of the seat frame appears to end up on the trans tunnel before it gets that far.

Not sure if I'm missing some secret voodoo secret to installing these things or if I just need to figure out who I can unload them on and reinstall stock seats.

edited to add picture of where it binds.

I acquired a pair of beautiful Status Ring seats in black leather with red stitching. They fit in the FD very well, slide forward and back, the whole nine yards.

Only problem? I literally do.not.fit

They'll fit a 32 inch waist for sure, but I'm a solid waist 34, currently a stocky 5 foot 7 and 180 pounds. I can get in them but not sit all the way back unless I twist my hips to one side. Not comfy like that.

They're like new and it's a damn shame but I'm going to have to put them up for sale if any of you skinny folk are interested

How do you fit in the RZ/Spirit R seats? I'm on the fence of just re upholstering the stock seats or going with RZ...

Wish that Sake Bomb project worked out with the replica RZ seats but that looks like a dead end.

I fit with zero issues-- they're a lot more forgiving. They're also bottom mount and great for the street but not for the track.

Update on the Stradia. It's actually hitting one of the seat bolts first. If I remove that bolt and space it up with a washer or two on that end, I can get the seat back to a acceptable position

However, I'm going to stick with stock anyway. It's just too tight to seat me comfortable (34 inch waist). I do fit but I wouldn't want to be in there for long drives, and the sitting angle puts your knees into the steering wheel (even with the smaller Nardi wheel)

And after all that, it's still not noticeably lower than stock.

Did the Ring seats completely clear the door and transmission tunnel or are there some slight rubbing?

Nope, the way they're mounted they completely clear the door and tunnel, and I'm able to move the driver's seat forward to back the complete travel

That's great, what seat rails did you use? How was the seating height vs stock?

Bride rails. Go have a peak at my FS ad, you can see they're mounted on the highest of the three adjustment spots. There's room to go lower for sure

Very tempting, I've been questioning if I'd fit in them or not though lol. Did you use the Bride Type LF ones?

Car had a custom weld-in roll bar. No door bars. If you're going to run proper door bars anyway (nascar style), then you won't be worrying about door panels either.

I don't have any pictures of the old setup. I'll be putting the same passenger seat in my new car and a 15" driver's seat. that won't be until spring time though as I need to get a new roll bar made for the new car.

To bring back the discussion of aluminum seats that will fit again, do you have any pictures?

At the time it didn't occur to me how much less room I would have since my car is RHD, but it also seems like an aluminum seat might be the only way to get the seat low enough for my needs (my butt needs to be no more than about 3" off the floor pan). The size and layback options are also nice.

Could the seat be bolted straight to the stock bolt holes (at least the rears, maybe with some brackets in the front)?

So while I would say these seats are good for tall drivers, I'm not sure about wide drivers. I've put on weight, but as BLUE TII said, it's your hips you really have to worry about. Obviously there is a limit to how fat someone can be, but I'd say for most of us it really just comes down to how wide your hip structure is. I think I measured mine at about 15" across IIRC, maybe a little more. So convert that into mm and you can get an idea. It is tight on my hips for sure, but as they said, you don't want to move side to side at all if possible, and this seat definitely meets that requirement. Now it will just come down to if it wears in a little and how long I can stand to sit in it before it starts hurting, IF it starts hurting. It's still not as tight as my buddy's fake Bride buckets, I don't believe.

This seat is kinda expensive, but it looks like it will fit with zero modification. I'm actually somewhat interested in the XL but trimming the halo and sides so it fits (better). Either way, I think they'd both be a PITA to mount directly to the floor.

THIS
What was the exact reason you went from the XL to the 400?

I'm prepping my new car for its first track day in 3 weeks so I'll get pictures of the seats when they go in. Yes it's the lowest way to sit in a FD, but it my require fabrication to the seat or mounts to get it mounted (seat in my case). I know you said you were looking for a bolt in solution. You could drill holes thru the seat and bolt to the factory sliders but you won't get all of the heigh benefit.

Not the factory sliders, straight to the factor mount holes. Although most people use simple brackets of some sort.
