I've went through about 15 or so different pair of seats on the fd. I'll give you guys an update later on what are some of the best seat and rail for the fd.
Whew. Just read all 730 posts in this thread. So no, I'm not lazy. AND I apparently have way too much time on my hands.
Here's my deal: Recently bought a '94 stock R2. Not going to track it; it's going to be a fairweather weekend roadster. Before I found my car, I drove a '93 stock touring for sale locally. And, at least partly based on how surprisingly roomy and comfortable it felt (despite everything I read to the contrary), I grabbed my R2 when I found it for sale. Driving it feels less roomy/less comfortable (feels like I have to splay my knees more around the wheel and have to recline the seat back further). It was two months between that drive and buying mine, and the test drive was maybe 10 minutes, so it could be entirely in my head.
Anyway. I'm 6'2, 230 lbs (38" waist, 32" inseam). And, now that you know almost as much about me as my tailor does, I also have a bad neck from a previous car accident and need a high seat back or, even better, an adjustable headrest. And for purely subjective aesthetic reasons, I'd like to swap out my mint-condition R2 Alcantaras for leather.
So I'm trying to find out if there are seats like this that would fit my FD. Maybe from a Miata? Mazda3? MX-6? Or maybe from something else entirely?
I'm happy to start a non-racing seat thread if y'all think it makes more sense ...
And sorry/not sorry for the eye candy. Total click bait :-).
I read through all the posts aside from the evox stock and rx8 didn't see other jam seats fitted. Has anyone tried the stock recaros from the mx3 and mx6? I have both these In storage so I may pull my current 1 piece seats out. I'm tired of climbing out of the car lol .

Hi there. Nice ride. People have fit the rx-8 seats into the FD. The FD is notoriously small for individuals of your stature. Be glad you have an r2 with no sunroof. You're a bit large in the waist (skinnier than me I think) for most of the racing buckets. Corbeau makes some comfy seats that might sit lower in the car and get you some head and leg room. You might also benefit from a smaller racing steering wheel, though you'll need to ditch the driver's airbag for that. Maybe the car you rode in had flattened seat cushions from more seat time. I'm roughly the same size and sometimes I feel like I fit better than others. You can fiddle with the recline and slide to find a comfy spot that works for you. I feel slightly smushed in my car, but it's worth it. And FWIW some big and tall people larger than us are roaming around in FDs. Cheers.

Surprisingly, I don't find fitting into my FD all that uncomfortable. I wish I could push the seat back just a little bit further, but I've got decent headroom and I don't feel like my thighs are getting crushed. It's the short seat back that's the real problem. If I could find the same seat with an adjustable headrest, I'd be golden..

4. Bride Zeta III
5. Bride Vios III lowmax
6. Mazdaspeed Type-F
7. Memoryfab s58
8. Sparco Sprint V
9. Recaro Profi and or SPG ( with slight rubbing to the door but not much, if you use Recaro rails instead of bride it will fit fine)
10. Sparco Roadster
11. Sparco Evo with stock seat rail (Touches doorcard, trim 10mm off shoulder bolster)
12 Sparco Evo QRT with Sparco base and standard side mounts
13. Sparco Milanos
14. Sparco Evo 2 LF (Touches doorcard, trim 10mm off shoulder bolster)
15. Tillett B6F XL 47 (which is the largest Tillett seat, meaning that they should all fit. Has a 30 degree layback angle, which is a little too much IMO. It will fit basically to the floor with the right rails. Probably the best option for REALLY big guys with long arms and short legs. Heavy and expensive, though.).
16. OMP HTE-R 400 (shoulder bolster needs a bit of a trim, mounted with Griffith super low rails mounted to the floor)
17. Bride Gias II Low Max on LR Rails (some rubbing on tranny tunnel making sliding difficult on JDM passenger side, drivers side is perfect fitment)
18. Recaro Pole Position ABE's with Griffiths seat bases. It was a very tight fit with only a slight touch on the drivers side (RHD)
19. Recaro Pole Position FIA with Griffins seat base
20: Recaro Pro Racer Han SPA
21. Cobra Nogaro (with Ronin Speedworks mounts)
22. edirb 023 carbon backed adjustable seats with Bride seat rails.
Will fit with modifications
1. Corbeau FX1 - fits with seat modification. Corbeau FX1 Install in FD
2. Sparco Evo 2 - - fits with seat modification.
3. Rx-8 seats (can be made to fit by modifying the racks)
4.Cobra Imola (with some minor triming of door side shoulder wing)
5. Sparco Torino 2 (modify the stock rails and get rid of the seat belt buckle they fit (barely))
6. Japanese knockoff of Sparco Pro Drive (shoulders hit the door and leg bolsters will probably rub on the console trim).
7. OMP HTE-R XL (halo would hit the window, both leg bolsters would need to be trimmed, shoulder bolsters seem to fit)
8. Cobra Suzuka Pro GT (only fits driver's side and only after trimming shoulder bolster and both leg bolsters. Non GT model needed for passenger side.)
9: Recaro SRD/Speed (using JP market seat mount/slider) Sliding is limited due to adjustment **** hitting rear panel (very tight fit near tunnel)
10: Evo X Recaro OEM seat (using oem Evo Slider and welding the Fd bracket) (very tight fit and limited adjustment)
11: Corbeau Evo with recline - plug and play using Corbeau mounts/sliders for shorter drivers, but very tight fit. Taller than 5'10, will need serious mods to the rails or bespoke solution
Will NOT fit:
1. Sparco Fighter
2: Recaro Pro Racer Han SPA XL
3: Sparco Evo 2 US
Wanted to follow up on this question. Has anyone put SP-J’s in their FD?
Thanks!
I'm not sure if there is a significant difference between SP-J and SP-JJ, but this car featured on Speedhunters has SP-JJs fitted, although the article doesn't detail what modifications/rails/etc.: Leap Of Faith: Buying An RX-7 Sight Unseen - Speedhunters

I have the OEM JDM recaro rails to fit these. You would need to notch the rear interior a little bit or else you have to remove the big fat **** for the tilt **** on the sp-jj
this seat is amazing, probably the closest thing to OEM RZ seats you’re gonna get
do they fit without touching anything? I’ve been back and forth trying to make a decision to gamble on these for a while. How low do they sit to the floor with those mounts?

Was also hoping to know if these made contact with the doors or not?
Was just in an FD for sale with a pair of Corbeau Evolution seats (Corbeau rails). Didn't look like any mods were made to the seat or rail. I'm 6'0" and fit with no problem. Same amount of head room too! Had to bring the seat back forward an extra click from stock seats for same fitment. I did think the seat backss blocked more of the rear view than OEM, but "whatever is the rear view mirror is losing" anyways right? ;-)
What’s the lowest seat rail option for side mount? Some people said garage star sits pretty low. Does anyone know how they compare to the Ronin?
im looking at just getting corbeau’s for now, as I sold my other seats and really need something. Haven’t decided yet between the fx1 or the pro. Can’t find any reviews on the ronin speedworks brackets. Has anyone ran them? Seem similar to the garage star but a bit cheaper

they will fit without touching anything depending on how far back you place them, because the FD door panel makes a slight taper inwards towards the back, so if you position them all the way back on the rails they will touch the door panel slightly, i have them about 1" from the back just enough to where they wont touch. and for reference i'm about 6'2 but i like my seating position to be close to the wheel. on the lowest setting its very hard to tighten the rear most bolts, so i have them on the second to lowest setting, i have just enough head clearance with a helmet on. could probably make the lowest setting work with some time/effort.

This is my car in the speedhunters article, figured I should add something to this. The SP-JJ's fit....kinda. I use the word fit loosely, because I had to do a fair bit of work to get these into the car without hitting anything. The rails are standard Bride rails for a bottom mount seat but, I had to make brackets to move the seat in towards the trans tunnel roughly an inch and use 3/4 square tubing to lift them up 3/4 of an inch. The result is a seat that fits the car but can't be moved forward or back. The tilt function works as it should, and the seats are comfortable if you're not over like 5'8. They don't hit my doors, so there's that I suppose. Ive been meaning to go back and redesign the entire seat bracket in an attempt to get the seat to slide/fit better. Also, these seats feature ***** on either side for the back adjustment. The inner **** must be removed. If anyone decides to go down this road please, and I mean this PLEASE use a high grade hardware. Everything I used on this was grade 5 or better, the hardware in the brackets is grade 8. This is really important, this thing has got to keep you planted if you crash and a seat is only as strong as the hardware used to keep it in place.
what bride seat rails did you use to install these? I have these seats and I want to be able to put them in (had them previously in a 370z

question, I have rather wide shoulders and back, enough I get regular comments. Would any of the aftermarket seats accommodate me with the "wrap around" bolsters going up so high?
I feel like I would be sitting with my shoulders hunched forward. Everyone I know with an FD has stock.seats, so no way to test and see.
