wow... those seats make the RZ seats look like a bargain

 

Has anyone considered using Lotus Elise seats? There are a bunch of options, and the space constraints are similar (I'm guessing).

Anyone know if the Bride GIAS low max seat with Bride lowmax seat rails fit for the FD without hitting and rubbing anything in the interior? I searched a ton of threads but could not find the answer. Someone did post a few pictures of the Bride GIAS in a RHD FD, but did not say if it rubbed or hit anything. I am 6'4" and I really need the lowest possible seat I can get.

 

Guess I'll weigh in on the MemoryFab seats now that I've been using them for a while... I've installed the S68 Kevlar/Aramid with the super low bracket. Picked up a few inches of headroom. I'm 6'0" and had helmet clearance issues with my factory seat even after removing foam. The seats have no side/door clearance problems and you can retain the factory seat belt receptacle (the MemoryFab mounting brackets even have a place to bolt them into).

They claim the seats fit waists 32-38 but my guess is if you're over a size 36 waist you will not be comfortable in these seats (I'm a 34 and it's tight). They are very narrow all the way up so forget about it if you're broad-chested. They're comfortable for occasional daily driving but I haven't been on any long trips yet.

So bottom line, if you or your passengers are of the larger persuasion, forget about these seats. Otherwise, at 11 lbs each, they're a great fit for the car.

They look good. However, for a daily driver it looks like they might suck. They might be a bit uncomfortable.

 

what would the best seats be for a person that is about 97lbs? I used to have a sparco speed in my miata but that was to big by about 2.5in on the sides.

 

are you saying the person weighs 97lbs?

I'd like to check these out in person sometime.

The only thing that bothers me about them is that they aren't FIA certified. I noticed that the K58's CAN be, but the certified ones are almost twice the price and a 3 month wait. Makes me wonder what they leave off of the others in terms of construction.

 

There was a thread about these seats a while back but I couldn't find it immediately after a cursory search. I think the gist of it was that the FIA certified ones are rebranded Sparcos/Recaro or the like, while the non-certified ones I have are just knock-offs. They lack a lot of torsional rigidity higher up around the wings but they seem pretty solid and well-constructed otherwise. You're welcome to check them out -- I am planning to head up to PFS this weekend for the dyno event if you want to meet up or caravan there.

 

How much clearance to the door panels do you have? Also the same for the center counsol?

 

Quite a bit of clearance as far as seats go. I will take closeup pictures tonight for you. You can sort of see the center console clearance in one of the pics above. Note how much space there is for the seat belt receptor to come up next to the seat.

 

As promised... Note that with the door closed, you can still slide your hand between the narrowest point where the seat meets the door trim or center console.

I'm curious about the RZ seats actually making a big difference in terms of holding you in. The side bolsters are much lower than say, a Sparco EVO to the extent that there's no slots needed for the belts... sort of like a Sparco Roadster which i think is mostly for looks. My EVO is a pain to get in and out of, but when you're in, you're in.

 

This is the reason why I got the Recaro Profi instaed of the RZ seats, I'm sure that they hold you in good but if you compare the sides to mine, you can tell that I won't be going anywhere, once I am in my seat, I am planted in it.

 

Peter, after taking my Spirit Rs through Deal's Gap a few times, I can tell ya that they do a fine job of holding you in place

How much clearance do you have on the shoulder area? I'm thinking about R98 seats and they are wider up top, although the bottom is narrower.

 

Damn Gordon, I have a 54k original black R1 with an overheated engine you could have bought for the price of those seats

I started a thread to help find out exactly how much an aftermarket seat will improve headroom - something we are all always looking for. It shows how I measured, and where to measure to get comparable results.
I ask anyone who has aftermarket seats to take a min or two and get these measurements and post to help out those of us who are trying to find out what seats we want. This will eliminate much of that "I'm 6'0" and don't fit" and the "I'm 6'3" and fit fine" comments and put measurements to those seats.

How comfortable are they? They look great and I really like the idea of improved headroom. I'd sure like it, but $1100 for the set of two is hard for me to justify. I could just get one, but that is still $600 for seat and low rails. If that is the only way to get a couple inches of head room, it might be worth it....

Has anyone figured out a way to drop the stock seats a bit? Is it possible to eliminate the rails altogether and just bolt the seats to the floor somehow?

 

$600 for seat + rail is relatively cheap. It can't get much lower than that unless you start looking at Ebay brands.

 

$1100 for 2 seats and rails is really affordable considering BRIDE GIAS/STRADIA's are more than that for just one seat, no rails
