LOL C'mon Phil...you dunno who did your doors for ya?! j/k

proselerzmj45, the pics that were just posted are of my car. The doors are from VerticalDoors.com, and as for who actually installed them, Dan Rose of Mr. Spoiler (literally one of the best body shops, period). www.mrspoiler.com Check out his work and some show cars he built that won numerous awards and were featured in magazines.

It's hot man. Love the ride. You have the VerticalDoors.com kit too, right? I think Brandon from RX7Trix was telling me about your car a while back...

Tiight tiight...

The prototype kit give you any problems? Ie, have any issues getting the doors to line up properly so they close properly, etc?

I know Dan told me something about the prototype...either you got the very first prototype (before mine) or you actually have the hinges that came off my car after Dan modified them hehe

So how you like the kit so far? I love it. My only complaint is sometimes I just really don't wanna attract any more attention to my car...the body work attracts enough attention as it is, ya know? I can always slide out the little opening it gives you w/ the doors down, but it ain't fun hehe.

Its definitely a conversation piece... When I bulit the car for SEMA last year, I tired to bring a trend from the Japanese FD to the states, although lambo door kits was very popular with the honda crowd, I wanted to see if would catch on with the RX-7. I love my doors beacuse I like to attract attention and because I am the marketing director for teamallstars. So the car sees alot of car shows in the west coast.. The prototype kit is holding very well eventually when you use the doors alot and eventually with constant use, you would have to make adjustments for alignment. I myself have not run into that problem yet.. Other than that they have been a great mod for the car.

FDNewbie what did you end up spending total on your kit + body work to get it installed? Could the install of the verticaldoors kit be done bolt-on in a home garage and not expect problems?

Umm...a LOT lol. I don't think you even want to know. I had the entire car repainted, put on the body kit, put on the doors, and a rack of other custom tidbits, such as painted calipers, custom front undertray, paint and install rear diffuser, all the CF canards were painted in at least 8 coats of clearcoat, replaced the original R spoiler w/ the current spoiler (and filled the holes in the hatch), custom hood paint job (you can see it in the pics...outlined the hood in black, and the vent itself was painted black, then the entire hood was clearcoated, leaving the other areas in CF), and the CF spoiler was also clearcoated w/ a custom paint job (certain areas were highlighted in black, while the rest was left in CF, but the endplates were the opposite: all black, w/ the edges left in CF), I had a custom bumper reinforcement bar installed, etc. The list goes on and on. There's a zillion and one small but very time consuming things I had done that you prob can't and won't see from the pics, and each only adds to the tab hehe

So I don't really have a simple figure for ya for just the kit and doors. That, and I got a few partial sponsorships that helped carry the tab.

To give you a ballpark figure, however, installation of just a body kit (front & rear bumpers and sideskirts only) should run you around two grand easy. You're prob. lookin at $800 - $1000 in paint alone (I'm not talking about a second-rate body shop). The doors, umm, I STRONGLY suggest you don't try it at home. After seeing what kind of work went into it, I'd say professional installation is required. Lemme put it for you like this. I believe Dan (Mr. Spoiler) charges between 1 - 2 grand for the INSTALL of the doors. Granted, other kits may take less time (my friend's decah doors were installed on his celica in 5 hrs flat, from start to finish at another shop, and it cost him what... $175?? lol), but this one takes more time and thus gives much better results.

So the short answer is a) expensive lol, and b) expect problems if you try it at home. Things like extending ALL the wires coming into the door (since the space between the door and the hinge increases when the doors go vertical), then routing them in a fashion that they won't interfere w/ the hinge, installing the hinge, and fastening it in the perfect and proper position so the doors align perfectly, etc...it's not a do-it-yourself job. Really.

Phil...I wanna finally see your car in person too! You gonna have the skirts on in time? Cuz those are gonna look SWEET.

And yes indeed, Noel's got a hot ride. I dunno how you drive that around...I'd get pulled over in 5 seconds flat if my car looked like that (the stickers) hehe. I'd get more than my fair share of "pop the hood please sir"

Phil...don't say that. A lot of ppl on the forum really like your car, including me.

And about the skirts...just a note. The polyfiber (since it's a weave) sometimes has a swirl/woven look to it. Make sure your friend sands it down FIRST, BEFORE priming and painting it, or you'll see that swirl/woven look in the final product after it's painted. You GOTTA sand it down and clear it BEFOREHAND, k? (Nothing major...just that some ppl think it'll go away when you paint over it. Maybe w/ other colors, but def. not w/ black).

As for the fenders...I liked your border fenders! I dunno why you're going back to stock. You don't have the 99 spec turn signals like me, do ya? lol (it's cool if you do. You copying me = me copying someone else etc etc. Very few things on FDs are very original nowadays... Hence why I went w/ a diff type of hood and spoiler, and even customized them at that. Even the endplates of the spoiler are custom. Trying to make it as "Ramyesque" as possible lol

As for the sound system...that's HOT. McIntosh amp? NOW who's the baller?!

Remind me to show ya my sound system setup @ RR, provided everything goes through smoothly in the next cpl of days

Ramy,

Border Fender had its problems.. All the gaps killed me.. I could of gotten it fixed, but too much trouble.. so, I just decided to go with the OEM..

I don't have the 99 side marker signals.. I got the smoked Euro VW sidemarkers.. Something different and wanted something smaller..

Oh ohhh.. what kind of system are you putting in?? I know you are going to blow me away!!
I got the Wael's old system.. I'm thinking about going all the way with all McIntosh headunit and all.. but not right now..

Phil,

Yea I remember you telling me something about the fenders having too many gaps... having fiberglass actually added to cover the gaps takes CRUCIAL $$, cuz it's lots and lots of labor. I don't blame you one bit.

Euro VW sidemarkers, eh? That'd definetly unique. I can sorta picture 'em...I think they'll look nice. I wanna see!!

As for the system, yea I think I remember you telling me you got Wael's old system. That's a serious system man. I dunno if I can top that lol

Mine...imma keep on the DL for now. But I'll tell ya this: it's no crazy super fancy custom job. I like and need my trunk space haha. It's gonna be very subtle, but very powerful and nice. That's what I'm going for. I think you'll like it =)

First-off Nice ride FDNewbie, I can see you've put in some time & $$ even if you don't have much for the full-on show-type bling bling. Though I gotta admit I'm not too hot on the spoiler either, but it's your car so who am I to complain bout it ryte?? Keep it up!!! Now just wanna save the $4500-5500 Kiwi dollars to get a set on mine *sob* (Sometimes I hate being at the a$$ end of the world, but at least it'll take a while for Al Queda to target New Zealand!! LOL)

proselerzmj45: What type of kit is it on your 7??? Pretty slick front air dam.

Ramy,

I should get it ready by end of next week... I'll take some pics and send it to you.. I'm going to work on my stereo tonight with my roommate.. He won some triple sack audio comp back in the days and knows couple of things..

I hope the side marker thing works well.. I had to drill the holes into my fenders and it was quite scary..

Are you going out at RR?? I was talking with Steve Kan when he was here about going to strip joints.

That is pretty damn funny. It was a "USAC Tiple Points Show" not a "triple sack" comp. lol We'll get it set up tonight, hopefully we can finish it all in one night, otherwise we'll definitely have it finished by the weekend.

USAC stands for United States Autosound Competition. The triple points show means that placing 1st in this show gives you the equivelent points as placing 1st in 3 regular USAC competitions. Thus, it was a fairly large group of cars that traveled for this competition. I placed 1st in Consumer Class/600W/Sound Quality. I was running a Rockford Fosgate setup with a 600a5 5 channel amp powering 6.5" Q series components up front, 5.25" Q series mid base speakers in the rear, and 2 10" Punch series subs in a leather covered/flush mounted/ported enclosure. This was in a 300zx tt. The overall sound quality was unbelievable with that setup, and although it was not setup for SPL competition, it did manage to hit 141db on the dash.
