manatecu, your interior kick A$$
I like that very very very much, if I can get my FD this year, I am going to do something like yours. One question, what sizes are your gauges? If they are 60 on the A pillar, may I ask what pods you are using??
And how much is the whole job on your interior?? that is really A$$ kicking!!!

Originally I had my dash painted. I liked it at first but later I decided I really did not like it. The paint tended to flake or get scratched really easy exposing the lovely black underplastic. What I finally decided to do was to sand off all the paint both new and old orginal black mazda paint. The entire dash was sanded down to the bare plastic. Next I sanded using very fine sanding paper to give a good surface for Polyurethane overspray. This made the entire dash nice and glossy black. I then applied the brushed aluminum overlay kit. The kit is a high gloss.
Here's another picture
All the gauges are 52mm

Yes, the red interior is painted.
If you are like me you will enjoy it for a little while and then you will have the same problems as with the old paint, "Flaking & Scratching".
But it will look really good until the flaking and scratching begins. In my case scratching was more of a problem than flaking. I used flex paint.
Chris
Note: The alum kit was 255, 3 gauges at 120, steering wheel at 200, Several little things ~300. Total interior cost.

Mark 57: My dash was painted with flex paint and clear coated. After about one year of wear it started to look kinda bad. The worst places were on the gauge cluster by the key. The key's would bank into the dash and cause scratches. The other place was the shifter console. After some time you colthing, buttons, dropped stuff, cats, girlfriends, etc will cause scratching.
The reason I wanted to get a dash kit is due to the silicone type material on top, very durable. I had a dash kit for my jeep for several years and it held up nicely, I am hoping the one for my FD does the same. So far so good.
I will have to agree with most of the people out there, the painted looks very good; however, the question is how long will it last that way? In my experiences not long.

Painting all the interior panels......
.......involves preparation, repairs, and automotive base coat and clear coat. When done right, it'll last quite nicely. But, it's gotta be done right, just like painting a car. Freddie Hebert of City Body and Fender Works here in Houma, LA did the dash pieces of his FD. His work is second to none. He will do all FD dash pieces including repairs to the plastic, base coat and clear coat them for $500. It's not an unreasonable deal to get such great work. Anyone who is interested in this or has questions can email me at markw57@bellsouth.net or catch Freddie at citybody@networktel.net. Keep in mind the work involved is quite labor intensive but it results in a very, very nice interior base with which get the interior as a whole in outstanding condition.
