how can I run audio from a laptop to a car deck.
I will have a laptop computer in my car alot now that Ill be running a haltech.
So how could I hook it up to the cars cd player?
what kind of deck would you recommend for something like this, CD changer ready or something like that??
It would be nice to run MP3 playlists, or whatever else.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
make sure the headunit has "Aux In"....with that you can run rca jacks in......and as said, you can get a 1/8th stereo plug to l/r rca jacks for $7.99 at radio shack, or an fm transmitter for $20-$50 depending on how much the salesman takes you for.

FM Transmitters are crap. I have the belkin and it just doesn't work very well. To make it work better I put a 6 foot extention cable on it and put the transmitter in the rear of the car in the back window. Then ran the cable to my laptop in the passenger seat.
It works well but on long trips when the stations change as you drive through different cities it might cause you to change frequencies which is a hassle.
If you spent two years on the system, definitely don't buy a transmitter.
They do have digital transmitters now that offer more frequencies, but still. Stay away, stay very far away.
It's almost worse than the tape deck. At least the tape deck is constantly sounding bad.

Yellow Dragon is no more
Oh yeah, most aftermarket CD decks that control changers will let you buy an aux-in adapter that will feed the audio through the changer bus. I don't think FM mods are as bad as that other guy makes them out to be. Not always great, but handy yes.

1) Aiwa is terrible
2) FM Modulation is terrible
3) Best is a head unit with auxillary inputs (RCA) that will control the volume.
4) Next best is a tape-adapter (yes, I know, it's right on par with FM modulation, but in terms of ease and quality, it's my second best recommendation).
5) Next best is using an external amplifier and Y-ing RCA cables from your laptop with the head unit's RCA to the amplifier. Then, in-line with the laptop, use a gain controller to use as a volume adjustment (assuming your laptop isn't up to the task of a high voltage audio output).
I don't know what your current audio setup is, so those are some options. If you're looking to upgrade on the cheap, pioneer has some nice head units that allow for auxillary control. Some have it right on the head-unit, with RCA cables on the back. Others offer a P-bus controller, which can be fitted with the Pioneer Bus-RCA adapter (crutchfield).

I see alot of you don't like the AIWA but for over 2 years I'm a happy camper and sound quality is superb in my opinion, wouldn't change it for anything yet looks beautifull...
What else you want from damn radio?????

how about buy a new alpine head unit- wait untill they release the ai-net cable so you can hook up a ipod directly to the head unit. Plus you will be able to control the ipod from the H.U. and track title playlists and stuff will display on the alpine screen.
