Good Idea For Subs In My Fc!

I have a 87 fc thats only a two seater. Right behind the seats are two compartments that I want to take the tops off of it and put my subs in there and put plexy glass over it. Plus make the hole for the air to come out of. Is this a good idea or would it for some reason not work well?

..People have said that many times the storage bins aren't the best place to put subs in. Reasons being, its an odd shape, small capacity. You can try the spare tire area, that'll fit a sub or two easily. Also PLENTLY of space if you fabbed up a fibreglass box for that.

You could use the storage bin compartment. Meaning you gut it out, fab your own box to fit in it. Thats done to have a stealthy system. Nothing outrageous. But if you want to build competition level system, I'd reccomend what p4nc7 said.

I did the storage bins in my 85. It hit real hard, so don't listen to those people who say its not a good location, many have never even attempted it. I did eventually want more and put a 15" in my rear tire area. I have a step by step install on the storage bin area on my cardoamin page.

I have 10 inch subs in the bins of my 87 RX-7. The lids still close.

I'm just in the process of putting 2x12" subs in there myself. With everything gutted out to the metal, and the lids taken off, the airspace is .1cubic ft. too large for perfect, but near the bottom range of optimal. The holes are a hair too small to just drop the speakers in, but I'm gonna angle them back a bit and I think it'll really look great. As for the sound, there are at least 3 guys in our local club that have done it. I haven't heard them, but they say they like it.

I say go for it!

Gutting it out to metal is different from just installing them into the storage bins is it not? =)

I want to have the whole storage bin taken out. Then put insulation around the whole thing with some kind of cloth over everything. Then make a circle box around the sub to put in the storage bin. Then plexyglass over it with 2 holes on each peice of plexyglass to let the air out as it bumps! I dont know if i typed this right for everyone to understand, but i hope you all got a good idea of what i mean. Does anyone think this would work good? and also im putting sub pulser around it to bring out some style

I ripped out the back seat in my '82 and fitted two Kappa Perfect 12VQs in a fibreglass/MDF enclosure. Hits quite hard, SPL is average (136.7db), SQ is amazing. I built the system with SQ in mind. I would recommend this as you still have a loading area in the trunk.
