Exclamation FD3 A/C panel blanks

I have made a blank AC panel. This can be used to mount gauges or accesories in custom positions. The final verison will be made from glass reinforced plastic. It will be very sturdy and will have all the original location mounting tabs. I am curious if anyone would be interested in buying one for thier fd? Price would be around $75 shipped.

That one will be hard to make out of GRP due to all the things that have to screw to the bottom. I am making up something. I will let you know what I come up with. The picture above are not the finial product. They are just to give you the idea of what the part will be.

Looks great Dave. Great craftsmanship/work as usual Glad to see the project's going well for ya, and there's a good bit of interest being generated.

I can convert them for people but like I said it would be hard to make that panel from a mold. I made a bad prototype of one a couple of years ago. It was a failure though because I had mounted the controls on the drivers side and not the pass side. There were clearance issues with that one. I can but have not yet made a second one. I will have one by the beginning of next week though.

here is the failed one.

I made a shifter pannel exactly like the one above. It fit in my car after I beat about 1/2 and inch down on the tranny tunnel in some spots. The guy I gave it to is having some trouble getting it in there so I might have to redo it How did you make the flat pannel for the ac. I made a fiberglass sheet and then used a epoxy that works on both glass and plastic to mold it in there. Worked great but was a time consuming especialy for the pfc button cutouts I put in there.

I used epoxy, epoxy filler, cardboard, coat hanger wire, some body filler, along with some sand & fill primer to make the template. The mold is being made from chopped strand fiber and epoxy resin. I am doing the cure under vacum to help keep the complex shape.

The panel that you mentioned making did you place the controls to the drivers side as in the pic?

Question, Would youguys prefer to have one that was completely blank with no radio slot at all? I have changed gears and decided to make the mold from silicone. It would be very easy to just make the panel completely blank. This would allow you to cut the holes and mount the items wherever you like. If the item were to be used in a race car and you do not use a radio you can see the obvious benefit.

Any thoughts?

If you put some pfc cut outs in like this I think you will increase your sales significantly along with charging a higher price. Cutting holes for gauges is easy but these little things are a pain and if you get them to work with the mold I think you would increase demand. It took sevral hours for me to get a simular outcome as these in the link. I just cut the peices out in the cardboard then poured reisin on top and let the excess drip through the cutouts (and then some sanding to get the holes exactly right with a tiny *** dremel bit) then molded it in. I was going to do a couple like this by hand but it was just way too time consuming. Just an idea I thought I would throw out there since I neve got around to doing this. https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...chmentid=93546

I wouldn't mind blank panels either. Anyway you could outline or make a template so we know where to cut for the radio and the dimmer switch?

Thats interesting and something i think that is worth considering. I can see there could be numerous combinations that could be offered. I'll start with one and go from there.
wReX, I could supply a template for the radio but the dimmer would have to be part of the mold since the clip is in the recessed area of the panel. I'll look closer at the dimmer and the wiring. It might be best to just mold that in there and have the panel blank aside from the dimmer.
