Sorry, I have not even worked on that part enough yet to have something to show. Since I replied to that. As far as the AC panel goes. I had made a very nice mold from a silicone product. After it cured and was removed it tore on one side. I have re-ordered the thickest silicone to make another attempt. The fella on the phone i think mistook what I needed and suggested a product taht is to soft for what I am trying to accomplish. I am still working on it and I will certainly post something as soon as I make some progress.

BTW No problem about the seats. I thought you must have died or something. Paid for seats then didn't hear back from any body for nearly six months.

Agreed

This is an awesome thing you got going here. I bet Jason at rx7store would even help you sell these on his site. I would have to say you should offer either completely blank ones and just include some cutting templates or just sell them already cut. You're going to have many people wanting many different combinations.

I am planning on two versions. One with the hole for the dimmer and one lower din slot for a head unit. Then the second would be a complete blank.

Not to be a tease but I finally have a nice mold to work with. Hoping to get a good panel by the end of the weekend.

I have decided not to make them completely blank. I was runnig into to many problems trying to accomadate for the dimmer and radio. You can easily still mount anything you like you will just have to cut the holes yourself.

I'd be in on the A/C panel, and the center if you make them. And are you going to sell the oil cooler ducts? I'd get a set of them also. Great stuf.

sounds like there are still some details that need to be hammered out but I am impressed with what I've seen thusfar. Could you briefly describe the material which you are making these panels out of. Will they be resistant to heat and abrasion? A problem I used to run into back in my hobby days was that epoxy based resin would soften up once it got hot and begin to warp slightly. I'm sure you've done your homework ;o) keep up the good work.

I have most of all of it planned in one form or another. The A/C panels will not be seeing enough heat that it would warp or soften the cured resin. I have considered trying a polyester resin with gel coat as well.
I have to assume that the epoxy you worked with was for R/C boats or possibly planes? I could see how the heat generated by the engine could warp the material. As I mentioned though the A/C panel just does not get that hot.

The hottest I could see it getting in a parked car is about 120 degrees in the peak of summer, depending on where you are ofcourse.

I was actually just referring to the heat from the sun. Back in the day we used to build high powered model rockets out of fiberglass, microballoons, foam, CF and every other thing you can imagine. My dad was a satellite engineer so i guess it was just something for us to do together. The rockets had built in apogee sensing altimeters, accelerometers, programmed delays, two stage deployment, and some would break the speed of sound and travel 6k+ feet. The engines in those things were as big as your leg. But anyhow you could defintely notice a structural change in the resin as it got warm.

Well that and you have to factor in the extreme stress it was put under during launch. Sounds like fun either way.

No, I have been out of town for the past two weeks. I plan on laying some in the mold before the end of the month. I will not be making the center panel. As of right now the only part that I am working on is the AC panel. It is a complete blank.
