I have the Kenwood DDX512 myself.

Looks identical to Gracer7's, except it doesn't come factory with the Navigation hardware, though it is available with the purchase of an additional accessory..

I'm actually selling it for $350 + Shipping/Paypal, which will include the FD harness, ready to install in minutes.

If you're interested..

I really like this unit and the Garmin Navigation is excellent. It is on sale right now at Crutchfield for $599 which is $180 less than when I bought it in June of last year.

If you Google around and check Amazon, you might find it for less.

I bought the FD wiring harness adaptor from Crutchfield. The harness made wiring very easy since it matched color for color. Installation of the unit itself was easier than I expected. I didn't need to buy any special adaptors or install units. I just used the sleeve that came in the box. The trim piece around the unit was also included. I did buy the Ipod adaptor separately but didn't bother with the Bluetooth adaptor.

Has anyone removed the dash center speaker in their installations? I have mine out and gauges in it's place.... Or do you simply not use it with the aftermarket installations?

First off, this thing fit like a glove compared to a single din I had in there before with a lot more junk off the rear of the unit and the pocket below. It was more shallow in the rear which cleared the stock support bars without modifying. I had three sets of RCA's plugged in as well.

This is an entry level unit. No GPS but enough options for most people. Also, you are able to change the illumination to red which matches with the interior lighting as well. So the unit cost me $320 shipped off ebay. Little did I know that Pioneer does not provide even a cage/sleeve for install of these. The install kit is a totally separate deal which cost me another $50. The install kit had the metal sleeve and supporting brackets for the unit as well as the black plastic trim bezel to go around the unit. So the cost is more like $400 as an fyi. The last thing is, for some reason the trim bezel was 1/8" too small. It measured 6-7/8" across the inside. The Pioneer unit measures exactly 7". No way to stretch or make that work so I plan to do the dremel work tonite to make it fit. For $50 it should fit like a glove so I'm not impressed. Perhaps the older double DIN Pioneers are 6-7/8, I don't know. Thats it. All in all a good unit with enough options to satisfy most. I love that it has a cd opening that doesnt require the screen moving up/down or in and out. Very sleek and stylish unit. Sorry for no pics, I haven't installed my ac trim piece yet.
Where did you buy the pioneer sleeve kit? The ones i have seen are for the avic models. Im about to purchase the avh-p3200 and would like to get the sleeve kit first so i know the install will be smooth.

Going to bump this up. I'm sure many people have installed navi and bluetooth touch screen units.

I'm looking to bring my FD into the 21st century with a head unit as well. Post your units up please.

I'm probably going to go with a cheap Joying unit to test out.. I like that they run full Android and I could put whatever apps I want on it. I'll run Spotify,Waze, google maps, etc. right on it. Once I get my Adaptronic ECU, I can connect to it via Bluetooth and monitor temps, etc. I also am considering getting the DEFI unit that lets you send the sensor data via Bluetooth so I could keep the dash looking mostly stock without a bunch of gauges everywhere (could probably only have one bluetooth device connected at a time tho).

I went from a Nexus 7 In-Dash to a 03-05 Miata Headunit, much simpler. Added the Aux-mod replacing the cassette deck, and hooked up a Soundbot Bluetooth receiver. Now I can play radio stations or use my phone for music/GPS if I want.

Bluetooth/Android is like the only new technology in today's headunits. The FD is loud enough that I don't even think sound quality matters that much. I went straight for convenience.

Has anyone figured out how to get the Defi unit to read off the ECU/OE sensors? As far as I know it'll only read RPM. All the temps and pressures need their own sensors.

So I guess this is getting a bump. I just installed my Android double din stereo which I purchased from eBay UK. It's a quad core unit with 2gb of RAM and it runs android 7 I think.

It's got bluetooth, radio, navigation all the good stuff... but the real reason I got it was that I wanted my interior to look clean as f*ck without gauges etc. So using the Adaptrackit app which of course connects to my Adaptronic Select ECU with a usb cable I read my gauges through the stereo.

Sorry for late reply, but did you just use a regular install bracket and cut center out? Curious as I will be tackling the stereo pretty soon.

thx

Ninja bumping to prevent a new thread of the same. Sorry gang

I bought a cheap iMars 7 inch 2 din for my FD, that is in another country. I am aware that I need to cut a middle piece of bar once I get there. Could someone please provide the "hole" measurements, and their cage size?
The iMars has 178mm x 102mm (screen part). I was looking to buy a cage that is 180mm x 103mm on eBay. Perhaps I won't need to use the frame they provide, just the cage to provide some sort of support.

TIA.

This is a bit late, but I just did this and figured it might help somebody in the future.

A lot of us have used the Pioneer ADT-VA133 installation kit, and it fits perfectly. The dimensions given by Crutchfield:
  • Trim Ring:
    • Outer Dimensions: Width = 7.385", Height = 4.645", Depth = 0.435"
    • Inner Dimensions: Width = 6.835", Height = 3.895", Depth = 0.355"
  • Cage:
    • Outer Dimensions: Width = 7.325", Height = 4.605", Depth = 3.785"
    • Inner Dimensions: Width = 7.115", Height = 4.305", Depth = 2.755"
