dont know if i should get the fd because its small

hey guys i drove a fd the other day, i loved it and had the money and everthing but could not get over the fact that its too small for me. im about 6' or 6'1 and about 260 (yeah i know need to lay off some stuffing of the face) and it feels like its about the same size as my fathers 86 vette. except the vette the bolsters on the seat are like racing seats. so i hate it that this is whats keeping me from my dream car. is there any way to mount the seat on the floor and get a seat with more butt and back width to it in the fd? please let me know something out soon cause i have to let him know if im going to get it in a day or so. thanks

How the hell are you little guys not fitting in that car? I'm (legit) 6'6" and 240 pounds and I've driven and/or own FB, FC, and FD. Of course I can't sit with the seat straight up but with it all the way back on the rails and a slight tilt, I fit. I'm not going to say the steering wheel isn't between my knees but I've never felt like I "don't fit".

I'm 6'2", 205lbs. I use the FD as my daily driver. Yeah, I have to climb out of the car because it's so low, but to me it's worth it. I have a recaro seat in mine and I fit like a glove.

Yes and Yes to your last questions. However, will it be enough? The FD is a small car. Unfortunately, some cars are just not for some people.

You can look around for a seat with low/less bolsters and then check to see if it will fit. The Sparco Torino is a real tight fit, so that's a good seat to use for dimension comparisons. If the seat you find is larger than the Torino, it won't fit.

The only factory seat I've seen someone attempt was the RX-8 seat. It does fit, however I don't know how you would fit in that seat. You can always go to a Mazda dealership and sit in a RX-8.

Haven't worked with an FD personally, but I used '02 Lincoln LS (Jaguar chassis) seats in the FC. They fit but just barely. Comfortable as heck though, and since not many people know about it, I picked up the pair, in black leather for just over $200 shipped.

f1spec.com claim the type1 and type2 seats have held people with 40 inch waists or something like that and the seats arent too pricey

I'm about 6'1 230 lbs and i fit into the FD okay. I slide the seat back all the way and tilt the seat back slightly. My head is close to the roof(almost on it) but I'm still comfortable. The seat is a little snug, but nothing to major, I think if you lost a little weight you would find it to be not as tight a squeeze.

Yeah, try fitting into one when you weigh 300lbs, when I first got my car is was almost not enjoyable....almost.

But I've dropped 70some pounds this year, so I won't even notice when I get it put back together again.

I definitely need a little bit smaller steering wheel though, legs are too long no matter how I sit, and even just a tiny bit smaller wheel would do the trick for me.

yeah spandy and to all that posted i thank you but i bought the car and after the 2.5 hour ride home i enjoyed it and its not that bad. i guess having suv's and larger vehicles like that i was not used to a small car when i drove it the first time. its not bad at all when you get used to it. but i could use a little smaller sterring wheel soon like spandy. that would help alot. have you been looking at any spandy?

This is going to sound terrible, but I can attest to its validity from personal experience. Buy the FD and use it as an excuse to shed some weight. Forget stripping the interior - spend the money you would have spent on cheeseburgers and pizza on a gym membership. Then, use the FD to get you there and back. Sure, it'll be uncomfortable for a while, but I'm telling you, if you REALLY love the car, you'll come up with ways to deal with it until you lose a little weight. MAKE SURE YOU DRIVE IT 4-5 TIMES WEEKLY. I am 6' and weigh 190... I lost 15 lbs in the last three months using the method I described above. And technically, my FD is faster.
