CA DIY KS Pop-up Headlight

It seems that alot of people are interested in a replica kit of the Knightsports Headlight.

I managed to get an original set of these and Im planning on making a replica of the headlight, but this time, Im planning on fitting it with hella 90mm headlights.

For the time being, I already found somebody to make the shroud in CF (thanks to forum/vendor widebodyseven) so it will be whole lot stronger than the original fiberglass.

I will be in the process of building the frame for the headlights so I will keep you guys posted on these.

I think think is a winning combination. Make sure to use the projector Hellas.

What kind of timeline are you thinking? It seems there are a lot of people making kits right now but none with a reasonable time to market.

Good luck and I know I'm very interested... so +1

The mold for the shrouds are done and i should be able to make the 1st carbon parts some time next week. The fiberglass version will be hand laid with a black gel coat and the carbon versions will be vacuum infused with clear gel coat.

nice, looking forward to pics installed... are these exact replicas? Seems like the original KS lights aren't really all that 'sleepy'... dunno, maybe the pics I saw were just from a bad angle or something.

Looks like the KS version which I agree, isn't really too much of a sleepy look.

Nice work though. Those look really well done.

Mould

The first step is almost done.. I need to start collecting the parts I need for this replica.

I am thinking of using Hella 90mm lights... Projectors for Driving and Hi-Beams

KS never really advertised it as a "sleepy" kit. It was advertised as a "dual light" kit. It just happen to open a little lower for a more aggressive look. It probably opens about 2/3's of the stock height.

It's gel coat, normally it would of been black not brown. But as you could see in the 1st picture the original part i'm using to make the mold is black, so if i use black gel coat on a already black surface it would be hard to tell if i have a even coat or missing some area. I use a red pigment to turn the black gel coat brown.

Keeping an eye on this one.

Would love to see it become a proper GB one day.

I've use orange before but didn't have any on hand. I'll probably pick up 5 gallon pale after my black tooling is gone.

BTW nice mold, i like the support on there.

its not just the color, its more up to the task of the heat generated when you are producing your parts.
5 gallons is ALOT , how many molds do you make?

I'm not really happy with this piece bc there are some flaws but here is a picture. I'll get more pictures tomorrow installed with out the lights tho since i don't have them.

Also this piece is very strong compared to the original flimsy KS shrouds. Which was the main goal of this project. The original KS shrouds are made out of a thin layer of hand laid fiberglass. My version is full carbon vacuum infused.
