400 for door panels? LOL
Who paid that?? I got mine for 100 bucks.
It cost me 1000 bucks for the entire shabang, and thats with the jdm rear seat.
Sure you can paint it for alot less but its an easy way out, its a shortcut, a half *** job that will look like crap.
Who the hell wants to retouch it every couple of months?
Thats like getting a maaco paintjob for 250 bucks but the paint fades at the end of the year and you go back each year for a touch up.
Do it once, do it right.

Well Done!
Good stuff staticguitar313! Just read through the whole thread and I think you silenced a lot of naysayers! I am working on fixing up an older home right now, I've found the best way to make things work is to just get in there and start trying stuff! Every problem has a solution if you have the time and the patience.
Again, very nice work!

i use rye dye on a diffierent car, works really well!
bought a inflatable swimming pool
pour dye in hot water to activate.
left the carpet and all interior pieces inside the pool for 3 days
rinse off the carpet every morning with clear water.
let it dry under sun and sit outside everyday.
carpet and all parts are like new!!

Stay Tan!
I would just reupholster the tan leather seats. Far too many cars have black interiors. Regular care and cleaning will keep a tan interior nice for years. I think switching to black for the sake of "easier care" is as lame as putting a piston engine in an RX7.

Thanks for this helpful topic.
I was wondering if the TAN interior ever existed with non-sunroof FD ?

I bought my first FD a few months ago. It’s an all original Montego Blue Mica RX-7 with tan leather seats and beige/orange carpeting. I’m trying to find the best options to replace the carpet with new black carpet and either trade or reskin the seats I have. Does anyone have any contacts that could help me? I’d be willing to trade the seats I have. They are in near perfect condition if anyone is interested. Thanks

Your seats look like they are in very good shape from the pictures, personally I'd just keep them clean and maintain them as-is. The FD I picked up recently has a somewhat more beat up interior, and it's the '93 tan. Since I had good results refinishing the black HVAC/radio panel, shift console panel & door insert bits, I think I'm going to restore my interior to the 94+ tan/black scheme. Which is like yours; all black plastic trim bits, tan carpet & seats. Quick question - is you car a 94+ and what color is the headliner?

I would probably keep it the way it is, if it's so nice. But, they make aftermarket black carpet for the FD. Or, you can wait with patience to find a black interior in the FS section. I've seen a few recently. However, it's a big job to switch carpets.

Great looking car. However that is a base model, not an R2. I knew in '93 you could option leather on the base model, but I don't recall knowing you could option tan leather on a later base model. I thought they all came with cloth. In any case, real nice looking car.
