Custom FD interior, should I do it for mine?

Hey

i was thinking of doing a custom interior for my FD, well.....mostly just relocating the climate controls to the center console. i was hoping to get some opinions from everyone. it would be painted in black and as for the cluster, that will be completely replaced with all defi gauges.

what do you guys think.... yes?... NO?......

I say go for it, since you have already ruined the car w/the engine swap. It cannot get much worse, oh no wait add a wide body kit, side flares, hood scoop and 20inch wheels, then the interior swap will fit. Your resale value is only going down my friend.

I just don't get why someone would want to be constantly hitting the climate controls with their elbow when they are fine in the stock location.

That's exactly my view too.

Being a JDM FD, I have the arm rest/storage compartment rather than the ash tray - love it.

However, covering the dash, doors cards etc is a must if you want your interior to look good. The standard rubber finish is the typical tack you get from '90s Japanese cars. I saw a CYM FD on here that had really nicely done leather door cards.....If I find it I will post a link.

Regarding the gauges - The stock <'99 gauges are very bland and quite ugly. The newer clusters look amazing though imo. I was thinking of making a custom digital cluster at one point (even made a working prototype), but I'm glad I went for a spirit r cluster in the end.

Why not put them in a new location preserving your center console as is? Get creative. I remember hearing about a member on here moving them to the headliner, going for a cockpit feel. You could also mount them out of view or installed in the map pocket of the door, how often do u really adjust them? Position accordingly. And post pics!

+1 I feel like my elbow and forearm would keep hitting it. I plan on relocating mine to the glovebox since I barely ever use the AC anyways.
